Thanks! The Betadine is 5%. She is lower in the pecking order. So I suppose it’s possible she’s getting pecked. She definitely was pecking at the wraps I put on. I’ll apply Vaseline starting tomorrow.
One of my girls started limping about a month ago. The top of her foot turned black and the bottom pad was swollen. I soaked in epsom salt daily, cleaned with Betadine and applied antibiotic cream then wrapped it. It seems to be healing, then will get angry again. Yesterday, I noticed the top of...
That makes sense. Bodies can’t fight illness without water and nutrients. Forced some egg into her. Thanks for your investment in my chicken. I really appreciate your help!
An update. I’ve got two doses of Monistat in her, and she fought it a bit this morning, which I take to be a good sign. She’s more steady on her feet today, though she’s mostly just laying down under the heat lamp. When I went into her space this morning it smelled very strongly of sulfur...
Just went back and felt her crop, and it was quite squishy. I noticed a kind of rotten smell a couple of times when I was cleaning her and just now when I pushed on the crop. She sort of burped when I pushed on it.
She’s my smallest chicken, but I could feel every bone in her just now cleaning her vent. Could you tell me how I know if her crop is emptying overnight? No lumps in her body anywhere that I could feel. But as I said in another reply, the area around her vent was squishy and there was a heaving...
I soaked her in warm water to clean her very dirty vent area. I don’t feel an egg back there, but it did feel kind of squishy. Will have to go feel a different chicken bum to see what’s normal I guess. There was a sort of heaving motion happening back there. Does this sound like she’s trying to...
Hi all. Despite having chickens for a while, this is my first issue and I’m not sure where to start.
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
Sold as Rhode Island Red, age 3. She’s always been smaller, but she feels skinnier than...
Hi all. We’ve had our chickens for about 9 months. Two of our Barred Rocks are missing feathers at the neck. They’ve not molted before, but it looks like pictures I’ve seen of new feathers growing in? I’m not sure if they are still laying. We are getting an egg or two each day, but I’m not sure...
Just tried to wash it off, and it’s pretty attached really looks like part of the toe. Think I’m going to try to get her to the vet. Thanks for your reply! I really appreciate how fast you are!
