Here is a quick shot through the run. They all look identical now and getting 3 white eggs, all the other hens are brown layers. I am glad its not a rooster :)
Gray Farms, You are correct! The other 2 leghorns caught up in looks and this afternoon I got 3 white eggs which means either one of them laid 2 eggs ORRRR I have 3 hens :)
4 so far today of 8 birds and the large brown egg is the first one that big and that color, I put a tetra brown and leghorn egg next to it for size comparison, I do believe that my barred rock laid her first egg today :)
4/8 birds but they just started laying 10 days ago so I am happy with that :) averaging 4 per day for the last few days. This is my first time raising my own hens and I gotta say that first egg sandwich was satisfying ;)
I picked all 8 of my birds on March 3rd as 1 day old chicks. I have 3 tetra browns, 3 Leghorns and 2 Barred rocks.
July 1st we got out first egg and for the last 10 days it has increased to where we are getting 4 eggs daily consistently and there was one day we got 5.
I know the Tetra browns...
Hi, since this is my first go around with chickens I am just not sure if I'm correct in thinking one of my leghorns is a rooster.
First image is of the bird that I suspect is a rooster and the second is one of the others that I have which the other 2 look identical to one another, both birds...
My chickens are 8 1/2 weeks old now, There is little miss angry from the quoted post above in the coop on the left, its crazy how fast these things grow! My barred rocks are still the most timid of the bunch.
Hi, This is my first go around with chickens and I've got 8 all together, 2 barred rocks, 3 tetra browns and 3 leghorns BUT I am pretty sure one of the leghorns is a rooster because its starting to get what my daughter calls "pretty feathers on his butt" and I am thinking it may be a rooster...
Thats exactly what I've been doing, They are going through 1 full feeder bottle per day and I am filling in in the morning, by the next morning there is just dust in the feeder. :)
This is Juggernaut, She is a Tetra Brown, She also believes that she is a human baby because going even remotely near the brooder results in her barreling through all of the other chicks and staring up waiting for a hand to be lowered so that she can climb in. This chick would rather be held...
Simple enough question with a simple enough answer I am assuming but my mama said the only dumb question is the one unasked so there's that.
1) Should chicks have a never ending supply of food? If so until when? week what?
2) if the answer is "nope" then what should a feeding schedule look...
