I had some in the incubator for 24 days, none of them exploded. I cracked them open and some were little chicks that died at various stages and some were with the blood ring.
I put 10 eggs in my incubator on March 11 as well, Day eight I candled and three had the blood ring. It is now day 22 and no piping yet. I did put them in late on the 11th. I'm hoping some start soon.
Since I'm not an expert on judging chickens I'll just give you my opinion. I like the second one The red wyandotte. He's looks to me like the best looking. But if his personality isn't good then he isn't worth it.
I am going to try that if I can get my hands on some dark cornish.
I am also going to try crossing a cornish cross with a barred rock and see what comes of it.
I am trying to be able to breed a meat chick for my family so we don't have to buy them
and because of how fast the others grow. I have...
We had two batches of cornish cross last year. The first batch dressed out at 7 lbs at 9 weeks.
The second batch barely weighed 5lbs at 8 weeks. I am raising two right now as an experiment to see if fed like a regular chicken how fast they grow. Currently they are almost 2 weeks and they are...
We did that with some roosters of regular breeds. They had good meat everywhere except the breast meat. They had very little breast meat. But they were good tasting and not too tough.
The TSC in Mt.Pleasant, MI had their shipment of chicks come in last week, Feb 25.
They had the red egg layers, the black egg layers, the jumbo cornish cross, and wyandottes

I am in a similar situation. I only need 5 dark cornish so I had to find someone to purchase 20 other chicks to make up the 25. I emailed someone near Bay City and he is hatching some dark cornish in March sometime. Here is his email. [email protected] I hope you find some.
I picked up some SIlver Laced Wyandottes from Tractor supply and was thinking of crossing them with my barred rock rooster. Has anyone ever done that cross? I want to breed my own meat chickens to cut down on costs. I have hatched before and so I know what I'm doing.
What is everyone's...
You can order the dark cornish through Tractor Supply but you have to order a total of 25 chicks. You can mix and match though. I think that goes for all Tractor Supply Stores in Michigan. If you can't through one near you the store in Mt.Pleasant can order them.
