I'll be keeping a watchful eye on this one and if he shows forcing or any other aggression towards the gals; I won't have a single problem making soup.
I appreciate the items to look out for!
UPDATE:
I think I was wrong about my Cockerel and this is why.
Stomping: I realized Belvedere (cockerel) is stomping when I'm poking my head in their coop in the dark with a headlamp on. I leave for work when it's dark and get home when it's dark. Every morning I clean out the coop by reaching...
May depend where you live too. I'm in the PNW and plan on getting babies in the Summer months so they can go outside sooner. BUT, that also means they're around ready to lay in the winter so it kicks them back a little. Meh.
I hate that we have to worry about that - shady people suck. Honestly, it never even dawned on me to watch the bird in his flock first. DUH.
I'm looking on a local page right now and will specifically ask if whomever I'm interested in has been raised with the dad. I don't mind dropping some...
THANK YOU!
I'll do just that. I really love having a Rooster around and love the crowing. BUT, I definitely want a good rooster for the gals.
I'm not particular at all on breed and will take your advice. Thank you again, I really appreciate the help here :)
Thank you. I thought it was off. He did go after me once when I had food in a bag and I thought it was just food aggression. Thinking I'll have to cull this guy.
That makes sense because I thought what you're saying IS what they do. Dang it... maybe I'll just not do the Rooster thing moving forward. He's my second one and they just seem like assholes so far.
I'll keep an eye out for now and if he is in fact keeping them from the food then he'll become...
I've learned my 8-month-old Delware Cockerel is food aggressive (even to me). Noticed this morning he's kinda being mean to the Pullets when they came out of the coop and he chased them away from the food dish. He's also been stomping a lot lately and chasing the pullets, I'm assuming he's...
Mine started limping two weeks ago, I separated her from the flock in a box to keep her from moving around too much. She started looking a lot better a week later so I let her back with her flock. Still limping a bit but is much better.
I'd start with separating her and minimizing movement.
That might be a little dramatic.
This morning I was walking out with some chips in a bag. My 7-month-old Delaware cockerel ran out to see what I had, in route to the coop (where I planned to dump the chips) he chased/went after/attacked me! I've had a real mean cockerel who would not stop no...
