Thank you, Eggcessive.
Isn't there usually blood visible in the stool with coccidiosis? There wasn't any sign of blood. Plus she went from healthy to dead in less than twelve hours. Could it have been some sort of poisoning? Or a defect?
I feel so sad for her best friend- she is sleeping...

Unfortunately, my beautiful Cassia didn't make it, but I'm posting pics of her feces anyway in case you can identify anything and help the rest of my flock.
My 3-month old Barnevelder became suddenly ill today. She was fine last night, but now she has diarrhea and can't hold herself up. She has no interest in eating or drinking, and her breathing is somewhat labored. I've separated her from the rest of the flock, but have absolutely no idea what...
Anybody have an idea what breed this chicken with the solid black head is? I bought her as a chick and was told she was an Ameraucana (which I understand probably means it's an EE). At just a few days old, she looked like the typical EE chick with chipmunk-like patterning and eyeliner around...
Thirteen days ago, our broody hen hatched three chicks. In the last couple of days, I've noticed that she's been shedding lots of feathers in the brooding box, and they're scattered and strewn all around. Is this common? She doesn't look bedraggled or like she's molting. In fact, aside from...

Today is a sad day. I have a flock of four beautiful birds, and when I went out to them today, I noticed that two of them have "bubble eye". This is the third time in three months. I've treated the flock with antibiotics twice before with success, but whatever respiratory illness they have...
kidcody- your point is an excellent one, but what I'm really concerned about is how aggressive the other two hens are. The two older hens peck at the two younger ones relentlessly, however they've never drawn blood. They also keep them from food and water, so that we have to keep two feeding...
We've recently discovered that our 3 month old Australorp is actually a rooster, and sadly has to go. My dilemma is this: we don't know what to do about the other chicken he bonded with, a silver-laced Wyandotte. We brought both of them into our flock of two existing hens to increase egg...
A local nursery is selling "Ameraucanas". I've read that unless you buy from a breeder that what you're really getting is an Easter Egger. Anyone know for certain?
