    What went wrong?

Give it some time.. I had issues with my adult rooster. He felt threatened by me and did attack me with his spurrs. hurt me badly. With help I put him in rooster jail for a day. He was so worried about the hens when he was in jail.. I felt for him. I let him out of "jail" (a dog cage) the next...

Barred Rock rooster x Buff Orpington hen cross - what do they look like?

I haven't got a picture but am trying to decide who the hen was who contributed the egg for 2 chicks, one male and one female. The Father Roo is Barred Rock.. I do have barred rock hens and Buff Orpington hens as well as one Australorp and 2 mixed breeds. A barred Rock hen hatched and raised...

    Which breed has yellow legs????

I am wondering why my 11 week old presumably barred rock pullet or cockerel who had a barred rock dad and probably a barred rock mom has such dark yellow legs, that none of the parent birds has.

Review by 'Northern Hen' in article 'Pecking! Not all pecks are equal.'

very informative observations. I have a question though. 2 of my new hens, bought as pullets from a co -op do not seem to know how to open their beaks to pick up sunflower seeds. They just peck furiously hard with their beaks closed. My other hens know how to gently and productively pick up...

Review by 'Northern Hen' in article 'Hatching chicks under Broody hen at home'

I found this encouraging and informative. It made things simple but specific.. eg the box in the coop after chicks hatch. I have a broody hen right now for the first time and am wondering how to deal with her and the chicks when they hatch.
