Her abdomen is swollen. I think she has Merek's, although she was allegedly vaccinated as a chick. I will take her to the vet and likely have her euthanized.
She is not in with the other two chickens. I had to deivide the coop when my other Buff colored chicken died (from fly strike - awful). The other two chickens are black and like birds of a feather, they flock together and they decided that the Buff chicken must die. The hens eat and drink...
My hen is about 4 years old. If it was Marek's wouldn't the other 2 chicken's have it too by now? I think they were inoculated at the hatchery as chicks.
Do I just post my question and it gets moved to the existing thread. I can't figure out how to just add my post to an existing topic. Maybe because I am doing this on my phone...can someone give me instructions on how to do it?
My Buff Orpington has not been able to stand or walk. I was force feeding her then she started eating and drinking on her own. But her crop still feels empty and although she appears fine otherwise, she is a skeleton under there. I have been giving her boiled eggs, tuna, kickin' chicken...
I feel so sad. I always gave him the best. He has always been very aggressive, my friends laugh at me..they named him: "Lucky Duck" He is not aggressive now, I know he is sick. I suspect he is just nearing the end. My Bantam hen, same age, is fine. They are not supposed to live as long as a...
Reduced swimming, quacking, eating, thinner. He is18 years old. Is there anything I can do? Or is he just at the end of his lifespan? Gets duck chow, meal worm, no toxic plants in pen. Will give poultry drench. No other symptoms.
Thanks! it has been 90 degrees for the last few days so I suppose that is hot enough. How far away to I have to keep them from my other flock...or is it just the wild bird vector threat?
I got my new chickens from a local farmer in NJ thinking that they were from her farm. Now I am finding out that many of these farmers order chicks from the Midwest and just resell them. I sent an email to the farmer inquiring..not sure if they will tell the truth, When they grow up I planned...
Maureen knows better than me for sure. I see that it is lighter underneath than my Austrathorp chicks who are black underneath. Sorry..the faces look the same as mine. (I known the breed of 4 out of my 6 chicks/pullets)
This one now has yellow/cream color on it's wing. You can see it starting to show in this pic. It now has similar color on his/her rump..black comb Slate legs. Any idea what breed?
