One of our hens recently hatched a few chicks. We have a few other hens in the coop with them and none of them seem to bother them expect for one hen that hatched one chick. She particularly targeted this one chick. We went to check on them one afternoon and found the little chick laying by the...
I'm in california and we have officially hit 100° weather. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks to keep my babies refreshed and cool for the already dreaded summer. All ideas are appreciated. Thanks :)
I saw one of my babies, Lance, limping yesterday from his right foot. I really didn't think anything of it. I thought he had just sprained it. I'm hoping that's still the case but today he seemed like it was really bothering him. He keeps favoring it and can barely walk on it. It's just a tad...
Thank you everyone!! It was my mistake as a newbie, i feel dumb. I didn't do anything to her. Just took her food away at night and gave it back in the morning and it had gone down slightly.
Another question, do chicks NEED grit in their diet?

Lol I feel like they get so ugly that it makes them cute lol. I look back at pictures of when we first got our hen and she was an ugly little thing. We got her at about 4 months. Now she's fully grown and beautiful
Thank you! We also have a storage bin in their part. We keep their feed in it but they don't really roost on it. I think it might be too tall for them still lol
We have our 3-4 week old babies in the coop. Of course they are separated from our older chickens (1 hen, 1 rooster). We sectioned off a corner of our coop for them. It's maybe 4ft x 4ft. There is a board running alongside part of the bottom and they seem to like roosting on it but it only fits...
Congrats on the new baby! I would think it's just scared especially since it is all by itself. I've read that you should always set a minimum of 6 eggs and I'm guessing that's why.
