I am going to pick up a wood 8x6 shed over the weekend, which I am planning to use as a coop for my chickens and I was wondering if anyone knows the correct procedure for dismantling and erecting a garden shed? I have a mixed flock of heavy breeds and bantams!! (about 50 birds in total) They produce much smaller eggs as you already know and they also tend to eat less often as well. You'll also find the poo bantams produce is much smaller and seems to be less often! Overall my bantams seem to fit in...

    How Big

Sorry I am not sure as I don't keep them. However I seem to remember other people on here saying that when they didn't slaughter them at the recommended time, they couldn't walk and suffered other health related problems. Hopefully someone more experienced will be along soon...

I Just killed and processed my first chicken...

Quote: Your welcome, I'm glad it helped someone else out! The first time is always the worst and it was quite daunting! (But I suppose that's natural, unless your a cold blooded serial killer). I think I felt bad because I wasn't starving and didn't NEED the meat to survive. I do understand...

yea! DH said 'maybe' to meat birds!!!

I can't really comment as I have only processed 1 bird so far and that was for our own personal consumption... I guess it makes sense that there would be more money in meat, but I did it to know that my family was eating good, healthy food, where we knew the source and care that had gone in to...

There is no need to appologise... I put exclamation points at the end of sentances quite often without even thinking! - lol My intention wasn't to disrespect the subject... I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat chicken because I am allergic to it! (there I go again with the exclamation...

Does anyone grow their own corn/seed feed?

Building on the "Does anyone else raise insects for their birds?" thread I wanted to know: Does anyone grow their own corn/seed feed? If so what type of corn/seed do you grow and what do you do with the rest of the crop? Nest Bedding?

POLL: How much do you pay for a 50# bag of feed???

I live in the UK and thought it might be useful to extend this little experiment overseas... It costs me about £5 for a 20Kg sack of organic layers pellets. And about £6 for a 20Kg sack of organic mixed corn. Sorry, I don't know the current exhange rate... Does anyone know what this is in US...
