I just wanted to let everyone know that I am currently in the process of training my dog (a black lab) to collect my eggs for me!
My chickens free range completely and although I know a few of their favourite nesting areas, I know that I am leaving quite a few (I have approximately 50 hens and...
Yes that's it!!!
Thank you sooo much!! - I'm gonna get me some bluegrass music!! Yee-ha!!
Heres a few more youtube links for anyone interested (the last 2 are my favourite)...
Also for anyone interested I have copied a couple of album links below (I have not downloaded these yet...
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone knows what kind of style hillbilly music is called?
I'm not winding you up, I really do love it when I hear it on TV and I thought I could download a few soundtracks to listen to, but I don't know what to look for!
It's a kind of fast paced country...
I am going to pick up a wood 8x6 shed over the weekend, which I am planning to use as a coop for my chickens and I was wondering if anyone knows the correct procedure for dismantling and erecting a garden shed?
I have never done it before and obviously I want to cause minimal damage so that it...
I have a mixed flock of heavy breeds and bantams!! (about 50 birds in total)
They produce much smaller eggs as you already know and they also tend to eat less often as well.
You'll also find the poo bantams produce is much smaller and seems to be less often!
Overall my bantams seem to fit in...
Sorry I am not sure as I don't keep them.
However I seem to remember other people on here saying that when they didn't slaughter them at the recommended time, they couldn't walk and suffered other health related problems.
Hopefully someone more experienced will be along soon...

Your welcome, I'm glad it helped someone else out!
The first time is always the worst and it was quite daunting! (But I suppose that's natural, unless your a cold blooded serial killer).
I think I felt bad because I wasn't starving and didn't NEED the meat to survive.
I do understand...
I can't really comment as I have only processed 1 bird so far and that was for our own personal consumption...
I guess it makes sense that there would be more money in meat, but I did it to know that my family was eating good, healthy food, where we knew the source and care that had gone in to...
There is no need to appologise...
I put exclamation points at the end of sentances quite often without even thinking! - lol
My intention wasn't to disrespect the subject...
I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat chicken because I am allergic to it! (there I go again with the exclamation...
1. Where do you live? General area of the country is fine.

2. How many chickens do you have?
Approx. 50-60 hens
3. What breeds do you have?

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share the whole process with ya' all as it may help some other people who are going through the same process someday...
I had a cockerel from this years hatch and where I live unfortunately I can't keep cockerels, due to the amount of complaining from relocating...
Building on the "Does anyone else raise insects for their birds?" thread I wanted to know:
Does anyone grow their own corn/seed feed?
If so what type of corn/seed do you grow and what do you do with the rest of the crop?
Nest Bedding?
I live in the UK and thought it might be useful to extend this little experiment overseas...
It costs me about £5 for a 20Kg sack of organic layers pellets.
And about £6 for a 20Kg sack of organic mixed corn.
Sorry, I don't know the current exhange rate...
Does anyone know what this is in US...
Many people bake their egg shells before crushing...
I haven't actually read of any benefit for doing this e.g. killing disease/bacteria etc.
So I have just been feeding the cracked egg shells (crushed when I have the time) to my birds.
I have been doing this for a few years now with no ill...
And here is a few american words translated into english words (that I can think of)... Please correct me if I am wrong!
And if you know of anymore please add them to build up a little dictionary!
American > English
Trunk > Boot of car
Truck > Car
Hood > Bonnet of car
Pants > Trousers...
Also another american word I can't work out is kudos!
Again it almost seems to mean well done or congratulations (when put into context with the conversation)...

What about Jamie Oliver's favourite word? "pucker" lol
It depends on the context but usually means "great or nice". But it could mean legit (legal).
