Tell me about cats and chickens. I have a mouse problem and rather than have a snake move in and clear them out I decided to get a cat. He's full grown and known to be a good hunter. Most of my chickens are good sized pullets now - rooster not old enough yet to protect them, though. I have yet...
This is my blue orpington roo. He is less than three months old and is already very large and has lots of comb and wattle.
Then I have a blue pullet -
The question comes about my buff - same age - no tail to speak of but getting a comb and wattle. What do you think?
I've been looking at that as well. The buff is starting to develop her comb and wattle but tail feathers are almost non-existent. I do believe #1 is a roo and his tail feathers are beginning to point I think. I am satisfied the other blue is a hen - she has a bushy tail but no comb and wattle...
Thank you, was afraid that was the case. :-( Really wanted my little buff to be a pullet but her comb and waddle started to develop - ah, well. They're the only two roosters on this funny farm. Guess I'll keep the one with the best attitude. :-)
Help me here, please. I have 2 blue Orpingtons and 1 buff - there were straight run from a local breeder. They are about 2 months old and I'm wondering what I have. Calling this one a roo? Hen?
Hen?
Thanks for your help.
Thanks. I've not been troubled with snakes but had to help my daughter next door get rid of a black snake yesterday. I know they are out there but so far they have not found my chickens. I always look when entering the coop so, for now, guess I will just continue to cross my fingers.
Well, my girls have more than 2 acres to find their own treats and they do that quite well. But, when I need them to go in for whatever reason - I just say, "Come on girls, let's go to your house" and they follow me right in cause they know a treat is coming. Even the young ones are getting the...
I am a widow and don't cook much. Not a lot of foodstuffs for chicken treats. Have been giving meal worms and oatmeal. They enjoy both. I got a package of meal worm mix - it contained cracked corn. It just occurred to me that they might like just the cracked corn - and a big bag of that...
Thank you all for your input on pepper spray for a mean rooster. I had a rooster I had to kill because he was so aggressive. I have NO experience - that was my first rooster ever (and my first chickens). I am not physically able to manhandle a rooster. I thought of pepper spray blinding or...
