Keeping American Games / American Gamefowl as Yard Ornaments

They were both in seperate cages at that time. It wasn't a good set up for them to go broody at that time but I didn't want my other roosters to mate with them. My other hens often go broody but it was just too late in the season for them last year.. I won't hatch their eggs this year. I...

Keeping American Games / American Gamefowl as Yard Ornaments

I only have two game hens. I obtained them last July and they are with the rest of my backyard flock. I have really enjoyed the addition. They are beautiful birds and very easy to deal with. When I got them last summer they were both laying well and they had both been in breeding pens at...

    Let's talk dubbing

The APA and ABA require males of the breeds Modern game, Old English games and American game of a year or older to be dubbed for show. If your are not showing them then it does not matter. Hens should not be dubbed. Old English is the same as Old English Game.

My EE seem so small compared to my other pullets

I don't think they look abnormally small. A little hard to tell from the photos though.

    Araucana laying brown eggs???

The APA and the ABA do not allow beards only tufts. In Continental Europe Tufts and Beards are required, In the UK there are two varieties recognized. One is rumpless and tufted and the other is tailed, bearded and crested. This last type is the only one in Austalia and New Zealand. The...

They look like immature gamefowl pullets. Single, pea, and rose combs exist in American game and those look to be either pea or rose combs just not developed yet.

    What is a bantam?

Some people consider bantams as strictly ornamental. I was raised eating bantams roosters and bantam eggs almost exclusively. I still prefer bantam eggs and some of my friends do too. Being small doesn't mean they can't be utilized as food. I raise coturnix quail and no one has any issue...

    Standard or Bantam?

The American Poultry Assoc. standards for Polish weights are 4.5 pounds for large fowl hens and 4 pounds for pullets, The weight for bantams are 26 ounces for hens and 24 for pullets. This should help with your determination.

Easter Egger hen turned out to be a rooster!

Good point Michael OShay, no argument here. Certainly my concept of easter eggers are not the same for everyone

Easter Egger hen turned out to be a rooster!

This part of your statement is likely true but not an absolute. I have had lots of hatchery easter eggers over the years and although most do carry both blue and brown egg shell genetics I still have had hens that were actual blue egg layers and also brown egg layers. A rooster of similar...

What color egg? Crested Cream Legbar cross with Easter Egger...

In order to produce Olive Eggers you would need to use a DARK brown egg layer. You are not doing that so expect green egg layers most likely.

Standard rule of breeding. The female should always be listed first in a cross! ...then no need to s

I have been around livestock all of my life and have never know of any reference to mating other than malexfemale even chickens. The only poultry genetic papers or on-line studies I recall reading were also malexfemale . I am not changing If one is going on the possibility that the male parent...
