My Blue Ameraucana died suddenly today 😔

I am truly heartbroken & sobbing. My beautiful blue Ameraucana died unexpectedly this evening. I went to do my before dinner chicken check and I noticed Penguiny (my daughter named her) in the corner vomiting clearish liquid in a projectile manner. I picked her up and her crop was literally the...

My fantastic 5 are 12 weeks. 3 are roos?

My fantastic 5 turned 12 weeks today 😊 My first hatched crew from my rooster & hens. They consist of the triplets (3 brown egg layers + a Dominique rooster) and two Ameraucanas (one has a Dominique as the dad, the other has a very small chance of gray Silkie). I am pretty sure there are 3 roos...

Is my beautiful 8 week old chick a roo?

This is Sumi, our unique & beautiful 8 1/2 week old chick we hatched. We are not certain what breeds the parents are, although I can narrow down the dad to 3 roosters. I am 99% sure Sumi is a roo looking at the wattles, comb, and pretty tail feathers. What do you think? Roo or pullet?

Polish 14 weeks. Boy or girl?

Pullet :) Is that a Mille Fleur in the background?

My adorable 4 week old chick - Whose the daddy?

Meet Sumi, my adorable 4 week old chick. I am trying to figure out who the daddy might be, as the chick is a mixed breed. My mother in law mated our roosters with her hens while my Silkie & Mille Fleur happened to be broody. I do not know what breed the mama is, only that Sumi came from a...

Can you help identify this bug all over coop after days of rain?

Good morning everyone! We have days of on and off rain here and I noticed these bugs all over the coop. They are black, long bodied, and fast. They are active all day. They have no interest in me (only my chicks dig me lol) and I have been in the coop constantly cleaning and changing...

My coparenting broody bantams hatched babies last night

Two of my Bantams went broody at the same time, in the same nesting box 😬, so my in laws gave us possibly 4 fertile eggs to try to hatch from our roosters they took in and their hens. My bantam girls are not the mamas. The roosters that could be the dads are a Dominique (Zorro) or Grey Silkie...

My chicken suddenly died today & I don't know why

I am broken hearted 😭. I found my 14 month old Easter Egger, Lightening, dead on her side in the chicken run within 20 minutes after seeing her. She seemed fine all day, not seeming lethargic at all. She was laying normally (she is the only one that lays greenish tinted eggs so I can tell), comb...

What animal bit off metal/tin on nesting box?

I have my 4 bantam pullets in a small coop in the yard, two of which are broody & hopefully hatching some eggs. I went to the nesting box this morning and saw what looks like tooth mark scratches and bit part of the tin/metal off. It wasn't there yesterday and all the bantams were unharmed...

My roos were killed & I am heartbroken

I am feeling a sad this morning that my 3 roos (2 polish bantams & black cochin) were taken in the middle of the night . The boys had to live at my inlaws' farm because of my village's rules on roosters and seemed happy living the rural country life with all the space. Evidently the coop was...

Which bantam laid which eggs? So excited!

I am so excited & surprised 😊 I have 4 bantam babies (3 mille fleur Bearded D'uccle bantams & 1 white silkie bantam) and they are 6 months as yesterday. All 4 are confirmed pullets. I went to go clean their coop & saw two of the cutest, tiniest eggs laying in the nesting box. It has been sub...

My roos on the farm at 4.5 months

I had posted a couple months ago about trying to determine the gender of my Bantams since we can't have roosters where we live. The ones I questioned all ended up being roos. Thanks for all your help on BYC. The 5 roos now live on a farm with my in laws & are doing well! We visit often & they...
