    Help! My chickens are fighting!

Would it help at all to put Henry in a different pen for a bit? I read somewhere that taking a bird out for a few days and then reintroducing him to the flock would make him lose his position as top rooster.

    Help! My chickens are fighting!

Thank you everyone for your replies. I know the numbers are off. That's due to my inexperience. You see, I got so excited that I was finally going to get chickens that I just bought 10 chicks without knowing what they were. Thinking they were all girls, we got Henry a few weeks later. The joke...

    Help! My chickens are fighting!

I know this is bad but I have 3 hens and 5 roosters. 1 rooster, Henry, is a little over a year old. While the rest are all 26 weeks. They've all gotten along great until now. In the past month, all have them have turned against one of the roo's, Korma. They terrorize him. They chase him, peck...

    This is too cute!

I recently took the nesting boxes out of the coop because we had 8 boxes for 7 chicks (and at least 3 of those are roosters). Besides that, these nesting boxes are old and rusted through. Being my usual lazy self, I took them out of the coop, but not out of their yard. Now every night when I go...

Breed? Gender? I have no clue!

Thanks! Looks like I was right about all but Chippy. So how do you tell? Like, what's the easiest way to tell?

Breed? Gender? I have no clue!

I'm not sure how old they are. I think the first 4 are around 2 months because they have a lot of their feathers. And I think Chippy and the other 2 are just a week or so behind.

Breed? Gender? I have no clue!

This is a rooster (that much I can figure out on my own). But can you tell me what breed? And these are a few of my chicks. I don't know their breed(s) or gender(s) Ashe Earbud Korma Thumper Chippy Edited to add Chippy

I finally put them all together.

2 weeks ago I built a temporary wall in the coop to keep my 7 chicks and my 1 new Rooster separated. It went amazingly well. Henry (the rooster) slept right next to the chicken wire and all the chicks huddled against him on the other side. He spent most of his days sitting right outside their...

2 month old chicks sleeping in nests

I recently removed the nesting boxes from our coop because they took up so much space (8 nesters for 7 chicks! lol). For lack of anything better to do with them, I put the boxes in their yard outside. Now whenever I go to close the coop at night, I find all 7 chicks in one box with the rooster...

I thought roosters always came back...

He came back! This morning I went up to check on the chicks and there he was! When I opened the door he just walked right in! I think I'll keep him in until the run is built, which won't happen until I get my butt off the computer! Thanks for your help!

    Is my coop big enough?

sassypants'mama : I would also recommend putting in a "people" sized door somewhere in there so you can get in if needed. I just recently connected the "nursery" to the regular coop when the chicks moved in with the big girls. I've found it very challenging that I didn't make the connection...

    Is my coop big enough?

The run will be directly in front of the coop(s). I'm attaching it to the edge of the barn and extending it 5 feet past the coop. Then when the second coop is built, I can just open up the one side of the run to include the second coop.

    Is my coop big enough?

Seriously? I thought ya'll were going to say the coop was tiny and the run needed to be twice as big! Is there such thing as having too much space? Yesterday I drew up plans for adding on to their coop. The one they have right now is a little too drafty. The bottom half is wood, the top half is...

    Is my coop big enough?

Our coop is 5 feet wide, 8 feet long and 6 feet tall. I'm building the run later today and I plan on it being 10x15. Is this enough room for 8 chickens?

    ((Serious Gardening))

Quote: Big garden! And lots of work to can, freeze and preserve all that produce. How are you watering your gardens...irrigation or sprinkler or Mother Nature? Clumpy soil can indicate several things... 1) may have been disked when the soil was a little too wet which should have been...
