Yes, this is news to me too! I've found a smallish black rat snake in the coop trying to eat an egg. After I bothered it enough that it spit the egg out, I haven't seen it since. However, 2 nights ago I went in to put the girls to bed and found a SIX FOOT black rat snake up in the roost bars and...
Hello, hoping for some thoughts here. I have 14 layers a year old and 1 rooster. I watch over them like a hawk. Today I noticed one of my Black Copper Marans missing a whole patch of feathers on her neck! My first thought was molt? But it is mid Feb here and has been really cold. This happened...
OMG!!! How heartbreaking!!! You must be devastated, I would be! No signs of paw prints or fur or anything like that? Maybe there was more than one critter to get so many at once. Was the door open when you saw it? Maybe your missing chicks ran off? I am so sorry.....
Hi all, Thanks Karen in western PA for the link to this thread.
I have the two Delaware chicks not growing... I was wondering if someone on this thread had pics of their bantam Delawares (pullets). I'm just hoping to compare what mine look like. Mine are 19 weeks old (almost 20 now) and they are...
I have never had bantams so I don't know if these are or not. I still suspect a genetic issue.... Anyway, they are healthy and happy otherwise so they will remain part of my flock, eggs or not. It is odd though that two of the two Delawares I got are like this, and none of the other 5 breeds I...
Here are a couple of pictures so you can see. I do worry about them laying because the eggs, if normal sized, would be bigger than their heads! Maybe eventually they will catch up, we'll see how it goes.
Buddy2Biddies can you maybe run some extra fencing around the bottom of your coop to keep...
Hello, here in an update on my little "runts." So all my girls are 19 weeks now, and my two Delawares are still small. They have grown a bit, but barely. They are still little piggies and eating, drinking and pooping fine, just small. The other girls don't seem to pick on them but they do get...
Thanks, i'll have to get some of that for next time... hoping there isn't one, but they are chickens after all! This one looks like it is finally starting to fade.. and I think she may be enjoying having a food dish all to herself, ha ha! I'm hoping maybe just one more day. Thanks again!
So one of my chicks got a nick on her middle toe. Being the over-cautious Mom I decided it needed cleaning and protection. So, I cleaned it off with witch hazel and dabbed on some blu-kote to keep the other chicks from pecking at the little sore.
Bad idea.
The blu-kote is acting like a pecking...
Hi,
I have the same exact situation, except that mine are both the Delawares I got from MPC. I got 18 chicks total, different breeds, and they are all growing well, except the 2 Delawares. They eat and drink and poop fine, they don't seem to get picked on by the others, and they are feathering...
Please help! I just found a hard callous looking thing under the wing of one of my girls. It reminds me of the callouses dogs get on their "elbows". Dark and scaly and crusty looking. I haven't been able to get a picture without my rooster attacking me... different thread... Anyway, anyone...
Hi all, I have a gorgeous Basque Roo that is about 21 weeks old. He is in an enclosed coop/run with 4 girls, about the same ages. I have had them all since they were a week old and hand raised them. Up until about a week ago, I would hang out with them in the coop/run and they would roost on...
ahh the poop site! Gotta love it! So hers looks like a combo of the "normal" tissue one (guess it would be pic #9) and the watery one. But I was worried 'cause that it all she kept pooping. Update: as of this morning she seems better. She ate last night and ate again this morning and seems...
