So my broody hen pushed the chicks that just hatched out of the nest. And watched at the other hens started pecking them. I'm assuming this is not a good thing so I brought the chicks up and put them in brooder. So after taking them the hen jumped down and is now running around with the flock...
So I went down to check the eggs and lo and behold I have two chicks hatched under my broody hen! It surprised me. My wife jump back yelling "what was that!!"
I do have one question though. Someone had said about putting the chicks after they hatch in with the broody if she takes to being a good mom. How does this work? My nesting boxes are 16 inches up. How will the chicks do with that?
With the advice you guys gave me I took 4 of the eggs and put them under my broody hen. I kept 6 in the incubator. I started with 12. 2 of which didn't develop when I heckled them at day 14.
