first pip every! First time incubating. Have to say thank you all for the info I've gotten from reading and the advice. Will more than likely post some more pics as it continues.

@dheltzel, your eggs are hatching today! Most of the ameraucanas are done now. I haven't checked on the BSL yet since they're in the bottom of the 1202 but I hear some of them peeping :)

With the advice you guys gave me I took 4 of the eggs and put them under my broody hen. I kept 6 in the incubator. I started with 12. 2 of which didn't develop when I heckled them at day 14.

I do have one question though. Someone had said about putting the chicks after they hatch in with the broody if she takes to being a good mom. How does this work? My nesting boxes are 16 inches up. How will the chicks do with that?

Our broodies usually hatch early, you may hear peeping under her if you can get close enough to listen. Don't lift her though...
Depending on her size you may be able to have the broody raise all of the chicks when they hatch.

Once the broody hatches her chicks I make a nest on floor level for her and move them to it. A hen with chicks will move pretty easily.
After she is moved and settled you can slip the others under her one at a time by cupping your hand over them and sliding them under her to either the left or right of her breastbone or under her wings. Then hang out to run interference or provide assistance if needed for a while.

So I went down to check the eggs and lo and behold I have two chicks hatched under my broody hen! It surprised me. My wife jump back yelling "what was that!!"

Well the coop and run are finally done. The girls were in it all day, they seemed to like so I put them in the coop for the night to see how they do. I have checcked on them 3 times this hour alone. They were all on the roost sitting close together but no peeping going on I hope they will be ok.
