Hi! Does anyone have laying Whiting True Blues yet? One of the pair I got is doing the submissive squat and is singing the egg song, checking out the egg boxes, etc., though no eggs yet. My worry is this: she still seems kind of small. She's 20 weeks old, but I guess I expected her to be bigger...
My Gold Cuckoo Marans hen is 30 weeks old and still not laying any eggs. She spent a half hour in the egg box today - and she does this regularly. But no eggs. Is this normal? Her sister hens (same age, different breeds) have been laying for weeks now.
Today she looks droopy-eyed and her poo...
At 12 weeks, both my black and red/brown True Blues have these luminescent green feathers mixed in. Green like a Japanese beetle. They're going to be pretty birds. They aren't fluffy at all. My other pullets and hens have more down on them. These are sleek birds.
Finally willing to eat seeds...
I have a couple of Whitings True Blues that are 12 weeks old now. They do seem to be quite flighty - almost impossible to catch. I thought it was because they weren't raised with handling and I got them at 5 weeks. But I haven't been able to win their trust.
That said, I do allow them to free...
Love it! Hope I'm able to do the same down the road. Well, I have one more question then. One of our young hens (who has been laying 5-6 eggs a week since she started a month ago) has suddenly gone on strike. No eggs for 5 days. Is that common also?
She doesn't seem sick, though she is...
Our gold cuckoo marans started egg-laying behavior a week or more ago: the submissive squat, the egg song, and she repeatedly goes into the egg box as though she's trying to lay an egg. But despite this behavior for more than a week -- no egg! The white marans we got at the same time started...
Crowing? CROWING?! How is this possible? This little Campine was supposed to be a pullet, but man oh man, I think I've got a baby roo here. And this morning? He woke us up with what sounded like a cute little crow.
What am I gonna do? Can't keep cute Campine roosters in Denver. Please...
No kidding. I'm not sure it's worth all blue eggs. The lady who had some lives on Ine Colorado, but i think they're all spoken for. You want my two little demon chickens? We haven't made much headway with them.
Would love to hear more on this thread. I have two young pullets now, and they seem very, very flighty. This may be because the lady I bought them from didn't handle them at all in the five weeks she had them. We can't even persuade them to eat treats, much less be held. What is your...
I've got two 6-week old pullets. Bought them at 5 weeks from someone here in Colorado who had 15. They are the wildest, flightiest critters we've had so far. We're working hard to get them used to us, but man! I wonder if anyone else has had any experience with them. I can't find anything...
Chicken Salad has taken on a whole new meaning in our house.
I tried just throwing left over greenies on the ground for them, but they can't pull the pieces off easily. Tried hanging a cabbage in the run, and they like that. But they LOVE this!
I used our fish grilling apparatus. It's...
