So I have the results back. Confirmed cockerel. I'm okay with it because there has also been a pretty noticeable personality change with the physical changes. Poor guy is just kind of the odd one out now in the flock too.
I was pretty sure of his first DNA sample that came back female being...
I figured I may get further telling signs in the days between getting the second sample results back. The saddle feathers are opening up sort of in-between pointy and rounded, but they are thinner than anything I can find on a hen.
But more interestingly, I just watched "her" try to mount my...
Probably doesn't make a difference but I meant saddle, not hackle. I could not find any suspicious feathers in the hackles. Some of the saddle feathers further along and more opened up are rounded on the ends then those fresh ones coming in.
I can't take the suspense and just ordered another blood sample to send off today. I was very careful with the feather collection, but I do feel more confident in the blood sample being free of contamination. The thought of if intersex was a possibility did actually cross my mind too as I was...
Thank you! You're right. I know I was careful collecting the feathers. I feel like she is a she both in looks and personality and just has some stronger features but the sliver of uncertainty is getting the best of me. There actually is an old thread of an easter egger on here that looks very...
Here are the saddle area feathers coming in, some of them do look pointy, but mostly it's the ones still in the casing
*edited, saddle not hackle, no hackle feathers coming in yet
Yes, the dad is the opal legbar. I'm thinking of sending a second sample with blood off today, this is making me so nervous. I am seriously attached to her and we can't have roos where we live.
I just went to look for saddle feathers and some looking pointy are coming in in that area but they...
No, the other cockerel in the photos is not related, only hatched the same time. He is the only frame of reference I have for peacombs and hard-feathered roosters.
I think the other 2 (pullet and cockerel) are half siblings but I am not positive if it was 1 or 2 opal roos in the pen. The other...
I don't know if I can take the suspense. I may just send in a second sample and do blood this time  But it almost seems pointless now to have paid for DNA sexing if I'm going to have to second guess it or wait it out.
The comb is 3 rows, but they do not extend all the way down and are...
I forgot I took these yesterday. Her feathers in the saddle area look just like her sister/half sister's so far. Her sister came back as pullet and has the tiniest little yellow comb...so a starke contrast to Blue's and all I have to compare to.
