Has anyone had DNA sexing be wrong? Pullet with large peacomb

I used IQ bird testing. It appears really accurate for everyone, so I wouldn’t worry too much. It was weird for me, I know the sample was right it was the only one that hatched.

is the opal legbar the dad?

Yes, the dad is the opal legbar. I'm thinking of sending a second sample with blood off today, this is making me so nervous. I am seriously attached to her and we can't have roos where we live.

I just went to look for saddle feathers and some looking pointy are coming in in that area but they are still very much sheathed so I can't tell if it's just from being furled up. The further along feathers coming in are rounded.

She really looks girl to me. I wouldn’t be too stressed.

I wouldn’t waste the energy of another test. If you’re doubting the legitimacy of it, what’s the point? No matter what it says you’ll still be waiting for physical confirmation because of doubts in the test.

Here are the saddle area feathers coming in, some of them do look pointy, but mostly it's the ones still in the casing

*edited, saddle not hackle, no hackle feathers coming in yet

Thank you! You're right. I know I was careful collecting the feathers. I feel like she is a she both in looks and personality and just has some stronger features but the sliver of uncertainty is getting the best of me. There actually is an old thread of an easter egger on here that looks very similar to Blue and had some cockerel features that ended up a pullet too. It gave me hope lol.

There's always the possibility of a mix up or contamination when sending in samples. But in all likelihood you simply have a pullet who is developing early. If you are still unsure, you can post again in here when the bird is a little older.

Yep, that's what I thought I might be seeing. Those are pointed saddle feathers... That's a cockerel-only trait. Since he was DNA tested, I would be very curious as to what is going on. I definitely never go around telling people that their birds could be intersex or have a hormone problem but in this case... I wonder what the accuracy is of those tests?
