She's still super shy. She'll eat out of my hand and come for treats, but if I just touch her, she'll panic. And picking her up is as if she's getting eaten alive. What I think is ironic is she's the top chicken in the pecking order.
Today they're a little over 4 weeks old
This one I think is my pullet
I think this is a roo, which I'm sad because then I can't keep him and he's really sweet
And here's a few more pics of them just because :)
So I'm keeping my eye out every day for Roos in my baby chicks. Already at 3 weeks, my blue Wyandotte is showing signs of being a cockerel, but I'm waiting on my Cochins to show some signs. I was looking for progressive pictures to see what to look for when I came upon this link...
I think he's gunna be really pretty too. He's got some dark lacing on the edge of his feathers that the other two don't have quite as much. I won't be able to keep him, so my friend and her kids who show in 4H will be lucky! Maybe he'll be a winner too :)
I think I found my first roo! And they're only 3 weeks old. I didn't expect to see any changes already! He's a blue wyandotte and by the way he's been acting, I felt like he was a roo. Now I think it's a good chance he is one. Anyone agree?
And to compare, these are my two other Wyandotte...
Thanks! Do you think I should giver her space or handle her more? I don't want to stress her out and cause her to associate me with that, but I also want her to be used to be handled
And I've never raised one before. I picked her out because I know they're supposed to be very friendly birds. This chick is about 2.5 weeks old and she's much more skittish than my Cochin and Wyandotte chicks. Anyone have any experience with austrolorps? Think she'll be more friendly and calm as...
This means they'll have a few dark feathers here and there with overall very light grey right? I just assumed I'd see a few dark wing feathers. One of my wyandottes are clearly showing splash coloration and the other two are dark blue. I'm just curious about what they'll look like. I want them...
I know this happens with austrolorps. They're born with some white on them and then lose it as they get older. I hope you're right! I won't love them less, just prefer the blue color.
I just got 3 blue cochin chicks, along with 3 blue wyandottes and 1 austrolorp. They're now about 2 weeks old and their wing feathers are coming in and showing their colors! My blue Cochins are not blue though, so far at least. I read about blue not being "true" and you can get splash as well...
My baby chicks!! 3 blue Cochins, 3 blue wyandottes, and 1 austrolorp. Only two have names since I know I'll have to get rid of the roosters if there are any. But omg I can't help but love them to bits and pieces :love and my Cochins are absolute dolls. I had one sit right on my knee and not for...
My New Hampshire red was Jemimah, my buff orpington was butterscotch, and my easter egged was biscuit. I say was, because I gave them to a friend of mine so I could start over with baby chicks. I gotta figure out some new names soon though! I used up my favorite ones!
