One of my kids friends spooked the girls today and Hoot tried to jump up to her roost from the back side and took quite a hit on her tailfeathers. She had lots of new pin feathers growing in there and that looks like where the bleeding is/was coming from. I did notice one of them...

Good News...I was able to find some local ladies. I will be getting 4 Barred Rocks and 4 Araucanas on Friday night. I will post pics when I get a chance after the weekend!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I was able to find some local chickens...good ol' Uncle Henry's. I will be getting 4 barred rocks and 4 Aracaunas on Friday night. YAY!!!
Also, our Tractor Supply in Brunswick (maine) will be opening on August 21 (my birthday, pretty sure they are doing this for me:D just kidding!) So there may be some chicken swaps that are a little closer to us Mid Coasters soon!
I called the store-Guy who answered just got back from vacation...he wasn't sure of the day and the schedule didn't have anything on it yet. He said the girl who does that scheduling will be in tomorrow (Wednesday) so I will call back tomorrow to get the details. I will post the for sure date...
We used to have a restaurant around here called Chuck Wagon so we are naming our coop "Chook Wagon." It came to me around 6:30 this morning when I was in that half awake, half asleep state. Always when I do my best problem solving! We won't be eating our chooks though

Hello to everyone. I have been scoping this site out for the last few weeks while I convert my 5-year-olds wooden playhouse into our chicken coop. All I had to do was bribe her with choosing the paint color:D Which is now Apple-A-Day red.
I don't have my chicks yet...still looking. Who knew...
