Thanks Den in Penn. We both free range but ours are let out later in the day. There is always feed & water available for them in the hen house. We get egg-layer mash from a feed mill up in Amish country. I think the neighbor feeds hers Purina Layena. Also her hens are out all day. I just...
I have a question. We split an order of Buffs with the neighbor a half a mile away. They were hatched in late April. Our Buffs are in with Barreds that are 2 months older than the Buffs. The Buffs here have been laying for at least a month now. The neighbor's Buffs haven't even started. Her...
I have a mixed flock. I introduced my Buff O's to the 2 month older Barreds when they were closer in size. They have been together since the end of July. They all get along but they still have a tendency to stay with their own kind. There are two Buffs that roost with the majority of Barreds...
Added my 9 four month old Buff pullets to the already established six month old Barred Rocks. There was definitely some show of who runs the roost and the pen yard but other than that everyone seems to be handling the integration well. I kept the Buffs separate from the Barreds until they...
Sweet picture. My Barreds are now almost 5 months old. Seems like yesterday those little peeps showed up. Now they are starting to lay eggs and wow, they are great!
Sorry for the delayed response Hawgon. My laptop ended up getting left behind in NY. Glad to hear your hatch went as well as expected and you are enjoying your hatch . As for feed, since they don't eat volumes of food, I usually use Pro Manna Gamebird and Showbird starter crumbles. They do...
Look what I found this morning! #6 is out. This little one is so cute. It peeps and is now staying near the #C that will be out sometime today. Like the idea of a webcam! Additional photos at my blog. The link is in my signature.
I'll continue to post pictures here as i can. I have incubated red golden eggs only on one other occasion. It is pretty exciting to get to watch the progression of the hatch in real time. Hawgon, enjoy your hatch!
22.5 days to the day for 3 of the 9 red golden pheasant eggs that made it to lock-down. I am seeing signs of pipping. I am hoping the others aren't too far behind.
How long have you had them? When I transported mine into their new settling, it took them some time to feel like they were 'home'. Do you have enough places where a hen could possibly put her eggs, etc. and get a break from the persistence of the roo. They need some space.
