What to feed chickens to lay more eggs.

How many layers do you have?, they usually lay an egg every other day, some do every day. I have about 16 layers , laying and i will get say 11 eggs one day and 5 the next. I just feed the regular Layers crumbles and scratch feed from the feed store, plus kitchen scraps and let them out to roam...

Well the Guineas Flew the coop

I know what you mean, i raised 22 than sold 11 of them (Guineas) but my chickens sure have been having a lot of problems laying this year like never before and i think it must be the disruption of the Guineas, they are loud, love to chase and peck at my chicks, i am about ready to butcher the...

Ended Official BYC Contest: Worst Chicken Molt Pictures - Fall/Winter 2012

When mine started i thought an animal was getting in the coop at night and roughing them up. It seems like they went into the molt just after a possum attack that killed 2 of my chicks and a roo. Ive had chickens for many years but have never seen all of my chicks go into molt at one time, and...

    a very stupid question

I have 11 guineas i raised from eggs hatched from a wild mother that came into my yard with her mate and a red rooster, naturally i began feeding them corn and they made themselves at home. Before the guineas wandered into my yard i had never had Guineas, or knew much about them except that...

    Do I have a problem?

Layer feed is not really the thing to feed Young birds, but i know of some people that do feed that to them and it doesn't kill them, but i think a little would not do any harm as long as their main food is the starter food,

    Styrofoam!

Linda, i am a total redneck from Florida and i also just throw it on the ground, infact when i used to just put their water in an open bucket and some over flowed on the ground, they loved to drink first on the ground before even drinking the fresh water in the bucket, from that i learned they...

What kind of plants should I plant?

i wouldn't worry about planting anything in the chicken run, they wont even let it start growing unless you put wire fence around the plant and don't let them at it, they will eat or peck any plant to death, i have an orange tree growing in my chicken yard the only reason they havnt eaten it, is...

Has anyone tried Diatomaceous earth? I understand that is an organic and safe for human consumption , product that can be used for worming livestock, research it on the web, i sometimes place it in my chickens food.

    Are wild onions a problem?

Probably, not at all, i also have the wild onions and they have no interest in them, I think they instinctively know what to eat and what not to.

    Edamame pods

Have at it, any vegetables is ok and dont have to bother blending them, let them eat the pods just as they are, they can.

    first time broody hatch question

Did you mark her eggs, either with a pencil or magic marker just put a little dot or other small marking on the egg so you will know which ones are hers and hopefully you wont have the staggering egg hatching problem next time.
