Interesting thread! I'll have to come back and recount some of my experiences when I have some time to type it out.

    First Egg Countdown!!

Good deal. I feed them some table scraps as well as any veggies we have to cull from the garden along with the feed. I'll have to look for the oyster shells at the co-op.

    First Egg Countdown!!

Just noticed a few of our Austra White hens have bright red combs! I'm hoping we'll get some eggs soon. Should I start giving them layer feed now or wait until they lay? They're right around 13/14 weeks.

    Heirloom Yields?

It's been such a cool...

Anybody else started on their gardens this year.

As Tammy N mentioned above, potatoes sold for eating are typically treated in order to prevent sprouting so they are not good for planting. If I remember correctly, potatoes also like a relatively acidic soil. If you're in a drier part of Oklahoma, you probably have alkaline soils.

I'm living in MS now, but I was born in Olney and will be taking over the family farm in Noble in a few years! Maybe I'll see some of you in the future!

Just built some raised beds for this year. I've never used them before, but we're renting this year and can't till up the yard. We'll see how it goes, I guess!
