    ➡ Quail hatch along

Put in a new 107 eggs onto the turner, tonight. Got phone calls on my existing hatch and looks like all my new hatches are going to be sold this weekend.

    ➡ Quail hatch along

Candled the eggs as I moved them to lockdown. Out of 95 eggs, 11 were not fertile. About 5 others were difficult to tell because of coloring. I put 84 eggs in the hatching trays. I'm going to have to build new hatching trays for my incubator because the baskets I have aren't big enough for this...

Is there a 'best incubator for quail' thread?

I used a Little Giant Incubator with a quail egg turner in it. Though it worked, I wasn't impressed with it. I built my own and have much better luck. It can be done for much less than $100.

I have 1 good accu-rite thermometer at the level of the eggs, along with the sensor for the controller nearby. Because they read the same, I trust their accuracy. The incubator is also cycled air so, should be consistent.

    ➡ Quail hatch along

Update on the 95 quail eggs. One day, this past weekend, I realized that the water bowl was empty and I filled it. I checked the thermometer/hygrometer for the last 24 hours and it appears the humidity didn't go over 16% for 1 day. I promptly filled the bowl and humidity has been 45-50%...

    ➡ Quail hatch along

This will be my largest amount to incubate, to date. 95 Jumbo Wild Coturnix quail eggs. Expected hatch date is 2/29. I'll candle on day 14 or 15 as they're moved to lockdown. (Originally posted in the Incubating and Hatching Eggs thread)

95 Coturnix eggs in the incubator

2020 amongst everybody or each? LoL. If I get my new incubator built and they sell, I'll hit that number. Otherwise, not likely.

    ➡ Quail hatch along

I'm assuming you are asking how many eggs I set in incubator. This past Wednesday I set 95 eggs. Expected hatch date is 2/29.

    No spots on quail eggs

I thought that, too. But, because there were so many, I'm thinking there may be some environmental or diet cause. Nothing has changed in months, though.

    No spots on quail eggs

I have about 40 jumbo wild coturnix hens. Yesterday I picked up about 30 eggs. About 1/2 of them had no color on them. Just plain tan eggs with no spots. I'm curious what causes this. Would they be any good to try incubating or should I just eat then and collect different eggs to incubate?

    Best Heritage Turkeys for newbie

Do turkeys return to a central place to roost or will they roost wherever is the most convenient? I have a lightly wooded area that I could fence in and it would be plenty of room for them. Probably close to an acre of land. I may let them share the area with another animal that I want to...

    Best Heritage Turkeys for newbie

I will add that I do have the space that I can let them free range. There's probably less issue with predation with turkeys compared to chickens but, there is that risk still. Would it be better to keep them penned in until a certain age in order to keep them nesting in the coop? I really...

    Best Heritage Turkeys for newbie

This is an interesting topic of conversation. I have a 6'x10' hoop coop that I built and wanted to put some turkeys in it, as well. However, I intend on using a 164' poultry netting to give them some foraging area. I probably won't get to move it too much but, they'll have the space outside...

    Buying Quail

Depending on the age of the birds, $6 could be a reasonable price. If they're 8 weeks old and about to begin laying that's not too bad. If they're new hatches, not so good.
