    Oh no....that is too bad. I was really hopeful but I guess every hen is truly different with their own personality. Good luck with the brooder, I have done it that way too and they grow so fast. So sorry about the momma.

    I'm so sorry about your mamma hen. I have a momma with 3 chicks who kept tearing up her nest, long story short I had one that hatched a week later in the incubator. The next day I brought the new chick and her cracked shell along with a fake egg....took mamma out of nest so she could run around...

    Well that explains the roosting! Thanks for the info on the Toms, do you know what age the Toms start being active/aggressive? I was hoping the 2 males would be ok together but in hindsight maybe it wasn't such a good idea!

    I would like to add on to this conversation. I brought home 2 young turkeys 3.5 months old, both Toms a few days ago and put them in a large fenced area with all my chickens, 2 Roosters and a momma chicken with her 2 week old babies. The Toms just started walking around like they had been there...

    Maybe she is just afraid. My ducks spooked once when something scared them in their pond and they didn't want to go in. The cure is mealworms! Throw some dried ones in there and I bet she gets over her fear!
