After reading the article it sounds like I can use it diluted in a spray bottle to simply spray around the coop w/out removing anything. Correct??
Do I spray around the run as well? I sprinkle DE everywhere once a week. Love that stuff.
How much per gallon of water for sprayer...
Now that it's molting time, should I change what I'm feeding? The hens are on Layena and kitchen scraps, everything else they forage from the yard and flowerbeds.
At one time I was a bleach freak, but now I use Oxine. Everywhere. I put a few drops in the hens' water founts every time I refill - it keeps the water fresh and prevents slime and general nastiness. I use Oxine / water mixture to clean the coop, nesting boxes and roosts. I also keep a spray...
Thank you for the advice on high protein during molting, I'll do that. The hens haven't had scratch all summer (due to our intense heat), just Layena, table scraps and any unfortunate bug or lizard that ventured into the yard.
Actually I found another hen (my other Ameraucana) with the same bald areas. I can find no mites anywhere on their bodies and nothing that looks suspicious - just no feathers. As a precaution, I checked the other hens and they all appear to be mite-free. I'll assume that they are starting to...
