Hi! My name is Shirlene and I live just outside Fort Worth TX with Ricky, my best friend and husband. I’m retired and have four wonderful grown/married kids and five incredible grandkids. When we started planning our chicken coop we made it as predator-proof (over-built)...

    Oxine, anyone?

@6chick*start, your Oxine and shipping price was excellent. I ordered from eBay and the shipping was terribly high.

    Oxine, anyone?

6chick*start : After reading the article it sounds like I can use it diluted in a spray bottle to simply spray around the coop w/out removing anything. Correct?? Do I spray around the run as well? I sprinkle DE everywhere once a week. Love that stuff. How much per gallon of water for sprayer...

    Feed during molt?

Now that it's molting time, should I change what I'm feeding? The hens are on Layena and kitchen scraps, everything else they forage from the yard and flowerbeds.

Ideas about this hen's lack of feathers?

Thank you for the advice on high protein during molting, I'll do that. The hens haven't had scratch all summer (due to our intense heat), just Layena, table scraps and any unfortunate bug or lizard that ventured into the yard.

Ideas about this hen's lack of feathers?

Actually I found another hen (my other Ameraucana) with the same bald areas. I can find no mites anywhere on their bodies and nothing that looks suspicious - just no feathers. As a precaution, I checked the other hens and they all appear to be mite-free. I'll assume that they are starting to...

Ideas about this hen's lack of feathers?

Hi, not an emergency, but my Ameraucana has bare skin. She's a regular layer and definitely not broody, any ideas what this might be? [/img] I appreciate all ideas and suggestions!

    "Hi!" from Fort Worth, TX

Hi, chicken lovers! I've been exploring BackYardChickens.com for months and months, and I'm finally joining y'all! I'm new to chickens. After a very long time I finally convinced my better half that we needed hens. We built a "Fort Knox" coop/run and bought our first little ones in April...
