    Newly aquired button quail

I went to an auction today for small farm animals. I came home with 4 little button quail. However now that I have them home I've noticed a few things I wanted to ask all of you about. I did hatch about 30 coternix quail once but that was many years ago. First off going by the color guides I've...

ID this golden pheasant chicks gender?

Wanting to know the gender has absolutely nothing to do with enjoying her while she is young. o.0 If you, for some reason, have an irresistible urge to know my reasons, she is my only one so I want a name for her besides Peep but I need to know the gender to do that. I've been keeping an eye on...

ID this golden pheasant chicks gender?

I had been thinking she was a hen but here lately I am not so sure. She was hatched on the 6th of this month so she is just under a month old. Here lately her eyes have been lightening to the point I suspect she might be a male but I don't have anything to compare her with to be sure lol. I have...

    What the heck is this??

If it helps it looks exactly like the red golden chick I am currently raising. I need to find more too. My poor single is all alone. XD

Ok, so results from the hatching are in. Only 1 live chick? o.0

I'm trying to figure out what happened here but it doesn't seem to make sense. I'll set you up with some background first. I have a Little Giant still air. No accessories, I did my turning by hand. I have done several successful hatches before, including a 100% hatch rate at one time. The...

    Brooding question. Bird cages?

I have about 5 different bird cages here, and I was wondering if the wire bottom would hurt the feet of baby chicks if I used one as a brooder. I am planning on putting some cardboard in a rim around the outside to keep the heat in of course. I am going to keep them indoors at first but I have a...

How long should I wait for them to hatch? EDIT Updated with video!

Updating as I checked today and one of them had finally cracked the shell! He seems to be taking a break but I can see movement so he's still hanging out in there lol!. Still not peeping though. I guess maybe they're just a quiet breed. Least this batch seems to be.

How long should I wait for them to hatch? EDIT Updated with video!

My golden pheasants were due to hatch yesterday evening. They are right now about a day late, and there is no peeping nor any indication of any kind of pipping. The temp did get down by about 5 degrees for a few days while I was struggling with my incubator. I am hoping that slowed down the...

    Ducklings imprinting on me?

I will say that I hatched a single duckling once. It imprinted on me and was very friendly as a baby. Absolutely unafraid. When it got older I began taking it out among the other ducks. It got to where it was a little bit wary, but I was still always able to walk up slowly and pick it up. So...

    Hello from Kentucky!

This is actually my second post, but it comes minutes after the other so I hope you'll forgive me. XD As the title says I live in Kentucky, and right now I have a pair of silky chickens, 1 white and 1 black, of currently unknown gender lol, and about 5 golden pheasant chicks which are mere days...

Due to hatch in 2 days, but one is odd

I have some golden pheasant eggs due to hatch day after tomorrow. ( Yay! ) I had 2 that were obviously infertile and threw them out earlier. One of the others is looking strange and I'm thinking it died halfway through development or something, but I'm not certain. It's not nearly as solid as...
