if a person wanted to by pass the expense of an incubator, how effective would it be to put the eggs under a broody bantam hen? how would that compare to letting the pheasant hen raise the brood?
if a person had a slow producing giant breed, would it increase production to take their eggs & put them under a pair of captive wilds or homers instead? would the foster parents be able to raise the giant breed chicks to eating size effectively?
hope you made chili. also keep in mind they only go where the food is & rattlers are not big egg eaters so you may want to do a little extra anti rodent action.
it's not just a size thing but also how fragile or submissive the prey animal is and the techniques used to kill. true canines & cats can go way up the scale in size and fight on prey. canids like fox are a little less intense but can occassionally go real big & tough. do you not have lynx, wolf...
fur farmed foxes are MUCH bigger than wild stock, it was part of the breeding criteria they get as big as the small southwestern coyotes. but no dogs used to do that just decades of selective breeding.
all the dolphinXwhale, have been crosses with dolphins that are called whales, primarily...
the russian tame fox project was done entirely with red fox and none of them have successfully crossbred with dogs. the arctic fox was crossed with the red fox to produce the blues raised by fur farms. if there was a legitimate dogXfox it would be worth a TON of money to which ever research...
what would be the IDEAL environmental conditions for guineas to free range & raise their own chicks say even to the point of establishing a small resident feral population?
what would be the best breed for such a situation?
laughing dog
it is NOT possible for native cottontails & european rabbits to produce a hybrid. it's been tried thousands of times on purpose and failed EVERY time. totally different genus. hybrids can only happen within the same genus. outside the genus the relationship is too far and won't...
don't worry Miko
thanks to you we have a year round open season on ringnecks (no they don't taste like chicken)

good pigdog shouldn't bother w/ shoats anyway. those are good crosses. pitXlab is popular in florida because of all the water & the pitXgrey is fairly common in more open...
cur dogs are better than collies, herding drive isn't over the top, can be trained to hunt ANYTHING & most well bred curs are leery of strangers so hard to steal. you will have to teach them not the screw w/ the birds but after that they are good to go. they very much want to please you and are...
what about equipment? do i really need incubators or will they raise their own chicks? not thinking hundreds here but maybe the equivalent of a large covey, say 1/2 dozen hens and a couple cocks.
the mourning doves here are a little smaller than the ringneck and the white tip doves are same size or bigger but those are down closer to the mexican border. we also have feral populations of ringneck. all good eating but yeah definitely smaller than pigeons.
i loved the pics & video in your...
if the basset is still young, active & healthy enough, teach it to run the mink. hunt them and kill them before they get to your birds. do that WHILE you work on a solution to prevent predation. also learn trapping techniques for when you can't actively hunt. while not the best choice mink can...
