I didn't add taste since I haven't had any to eat yet. The next batch (43!) that I have in the Hatch-a-long are for eating. It should be an experience for us since all we've ever had are pets since our previous hatches have been extremely low (shaken and abused eggs courtesy of the USPS).
But with 43 in the bator, and right now I have 4 hens, in theory, I could have eggs, for a bit, be collecting eggs for hatching, have some in the brooder, some ready for Camp Kenmore. Depending on space conditions, I could have a constant supply of meat.
18 months for Butlers? That's worse that chickens. And about 9 batches of coturnix if you think 2 months a piece back to back. Wow. Are they 9 times as tasty?
