    Hoop House for Winter

Did you end up building the hoop house for your chickshaw? I am considering something similar for my chickshaw and would love to see pictures.

    Chicken Accoutrement Organization

Thanks you guys! This really helped me to consider some new things. Because I only have a few chickens and need to refill food daily, I think I will go with: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002H3S5K/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2LVKYFZ2JNF2B&coliid=ID15JE4TE3ID5&psc=1 They...

Who has a metal roof on their run???

http://www.metalsales.us.com/residential/products/metal-panel/classic-rib-aluminum-residential#.WB57IYXwg-c The product specifies that I should have an 18" rise. I do think 2' looks more reasonable than 1', but It just doesn't line up with anything on the building. I'm just gonna keep...

    Chicken Accoutrement Organization

I'm finally settling into a permanent chicken set up and wanted to crowd source how you keep all your chicken stuff. We had outside construction for a long time, so had temporary housing for the chickens, and literally had bags of feed in our dining room and on the kitchen counter, but things...

Who has a metal roof on their run???

Thanks, Terry! Your run looks great (as does your garden)! My lower option is about a foot rise to 6' run. So, maybe it would work. The metal I intend to use has installation instructions of using 5/8" OSB. Clearly it's intended for real roof application on a real building, and I don't want...

Who has a metal roof on their run???

Thanks, Dom. My first illustration is like a foot rise for a 6' run, so not too much smaller than yours. But still, I agree, it does seem really shallow in pitch. I'd wager the second illustration is about 3' rise. Building aside, I think I like the way 2' rise looks, but I just can't come...

    Garage Coop?

Hm, I'm sure more experienced chicken owners could advise you better, but maybe you have a ventilation problem. As I said, mine seems to do fine, and I've added some of the old litter from my other coop, so I expect it will continue to do well. Good luck to you!

    Garage Coop?

I've seen it done without ground contact, and it's been suggested to leave a little bit of the old bedding when cleaning it out to keep the good bacteria going like good gut bacteria. It worked well enough in my old coop which was elevated off the ground.

    Potter Poulets

First, I should explain that I live in a historic house and must have anything on our property approved by a historical commission in a very painful and lengthy process. After two years of process, we finally got to build a new garage this year. I ordered 6 peeps for my February birthday with...

Looking for suggestions to amuse my flock

I thought I might inherit a couple wooden ladders, but it turns out not. I'm hesitant to install permanent ones just yet, cause I have to get in there to frame the roof, but a pallet is perfect! And I have a couple in the basement! Thanks!

    Garage Coop?

Indeed, I do! This is officially my 20th post, so I'll be starting my coop page tonight. I'll come back and post a link here.

Who has a metal roof on their run???

I'm putting a metal roof on my run, and have a few questions: 1) did you sheath your roof with OSB or just attach the metal to the rafters? 2) I think code here is 18" O.C., but I may go with 24" O.C. if I sheath, cause it's not a real roof, but I do need it to support snow. 3)...
