So- just hard boiled a batch of eggs and a few of them appear to have a dot (about the size of a pencil eraser) of a creamy substance. What's up with that? they were only a day or two old.....
So, I've had 2 hens (buff & australorp) sitting together in a nesting box (we're getting close to the 21 days) and who knows how many eggs (but deff. a bunch). This morning I went into the coop to gather eggs and one of the other hens (a rock) had kicked the two hens out of the box and was...
OK- here's another question that I have. For the last week or so I've had 3 hens sitting on eggs. Yesterday, another hen (the black australorp) joined in on sitting on one of the the hens eggs with her. There doesn't seem to be any issue between the two. Is this ok? should I take the 2nd hen...

My polish top hat hens have a white-ish blue iridecent spot on each side of their heads. They are sort of behind the eyes but lower. Does anyone know what these are?
Do any of you know if there are any laws in Maine regarding selling eggs? Want to sell at a local market but can't find any laws on the state's aggie web site. Thanks for any help.
So my chix eggs have a regular egg white but then in between that and the yolk is a denser/much thicker white. Is this due to them being fertile? We do have roos but I collect the eggs 3x/day. Or is it just how "real eggs" (non-store bought) are? First time with home layed eggs so I have not a clue.
