    First Hatch

We've done both removing them from the brooder and letting them stay inside until they all hatch. When it comes down to it, you have to gauge it based on how the chicks are behaving. Sometimes, they get restless and will begin to sit on one another (which isn't a bad thing unless they all pile...

Is this new? Has she been eating and drinking? How old is she?

Favorite EE had wing ripped off by predator. Recommendations to prevent infection?

I am so sorry for you and your poor bird! It sounds like you are taking good care of her wounds. I just wanted to warn you to watch out for a fly-strike in the wound. (Flies will lay eggs in an open wound, and then, once they hatch, it is not fun to be picking maggots out of the wound -...

    Purple Skin on Duck's Rear?

Update: My duck is looking so much better. I have been putting fresh oregano leaves in their food each day along with apple cider vinegar in their water every day. Also, every night, before bed, I put her in the pond to clean her off if she is dirty, and then I cover her rear in bacitracin...

    Purple Skin on Duck's Rear?

Unfortunately, a vet is not an option. There are no vets in this area that would be able to help with a duck.

    Purple Skin on Duck's Rear?

I am not sure if she is one of the laying girls. I have three hens and a drake in a coop together, and I usually get two eggs from them. She could be the one that isn't laying, or it may be one of the other girls. Not sure on that one. I've looked into Ascites, but she is not hot anywhere...

    Purple Skin on Duck's Rear?

She is two years and four months old. The skin is not oozing anywhere, and there is nothing that would be abnormal other than the color and the size of the rear. The feathers have been rubbed off for around 6 months now. I assumed it was simply because she was dragging on the ground. Her...

    Purple Skin on Duck's Rear?

I'm not sure. I just think it would be strange for it to bruise now after it has been sagging/dragging for so long.

    Purple Skin on Duck's Rear?

Hello! I have a female Anconna duck with two other hens and one drake. She has developed a low, sagging section on her rear within the last year. Doing some research, I thought it was just part of her anatomy. I discovered that it could simply be an egg sac, meaning she lays eggs often, and...

    Gagging Duck!

Update: The duckling passed away a few moments ago. Thank you all for your help and quick replies, though. It was helpful and gave much hope in the situation.

    Gagging Duck!

@Miss Lydia, this is a duckling that lives in the creek in the backyard. It is a wild duck and stays with his mom and six other ducklings, but they are very used to people. That being said, it has had access to many other things rather than chick starter.
