Lethargic Hen/Broken beak, Is this the end?

I agree completely! I have a bird that broke her top beak completely off up to her nostrils which even ripped. I have no idea how she did it, but we kept it clean and applied the occasional antiseptic balm, and let her be a 'kitchen chicken' for a week or so until she started acting normally...

Duck question - ducks that quit walking and standing...

Duck question. I culled a peking last month because he quit walking. I thought maybe he had frostbitten his feet, but it went into a respiratory thing. It IS very cold here, but the ducks share the coop/barn with the chickens and it has 3 heat lamps, deep litter/bedding, and I close the door...

Warning Graphic...Feathers and skin missing from chicks neck. How do I treat it?

I had a roo who lost huge chunks of skin in a fox attack. Couldn't believe he lived through it. Bag Balm is an antiseptic vasaline type substance. That is all I used on him and it worked beautifully. Also - I fed him lots of scrambled eggs! ;0) great protien and they love them!!! Good luck!

    Any info in slipped tendons???

I have a silkie rooster that I found in the rain. He was standing up soaking wet and as I watched the ducks ran him over. He fell over and just stayed there. I thought he might be cold and/or dehydrated so I brought him in, gave him a warm bath to get the duck slime off him ;0) dried him...

    Chick with Broken Beak

This is Sparkles. She broke her beak a year ago - about where yours seems to have. I have no idea how it happened and I was completely horrified. That being said is doing perfectly fine and a happy hen. I cleaned it the best I could and did keep her inside a few days just to limit stress...

Quote: Thank you - he seemed to be doing well and the broody hens protects him like nothing I have ever seen. In fact just this morning I was asking I could bring him in with her when she hatches her eggs because he is literaly sittting under her with her 5 eggs. He's so funny - totally...
