  • How good are you with duck genetics?

We lost our female Pekin to a raccoon, completely maimed her.
Right after we collected a few eggs that were likely hers.

Which color would be more dominant, white or chocolate? We’re trying to figure out the mother. We have female chocolate runners that could’ve been bred to our male pekin. Or a chocolate & white runner male to the Female pekin (pre attack).

Now, unfortunately since the Runners are also breeding with the pekin, you can't say that any non-chocolate males that hatch are for sure the pekin hen's offspring, because the Runners would make non-chocolate males with the pekin drake (again, as long as he's not chocolate or carrying chocolate under the white, which he could be).

So basically, be looking for white ducklings. As long as the Runner females aren't carrying white, any white ducklings are the pekin hen's.

Thank you for all the info!

We had two beauties hatch, but the other two died. One was majorly deformed and passed in the loving hands of my sister, and the other just stopped forming in shell.
I need your help. I noticed that you do a lot of articles about hatching and I need to know about an egg. I made a thread about it several hours ago but no one is responding and I know a lot can go wrong in a few hours when it comes to chicks and hatching.
    Hi,
I'm writing about my experiences with my first batch of chicken eggs I'm incubating and a simpler version of many incubation articles I've read. Can I reference some of your articles? I can send you my article so far if you need to approve it.
