We have had a burlap tarp partially draped over the coop door to try and keep the cold air out. We think they got deterred and thus lingered outside. The flap has been removed and they're not back inside. But the comatose hen has passed. The other is getting stronger
Our chickens have refused to go back into their coop and have been sleeping just out side it in this cold NE weather. Two chickens are gravly ill now. One is able to function but is lethargic, the other is comatose. I feel a heart beat, even if faint so I KNOW she's still fighting. No rigor...
Ah, thanks for the assurance! Protective-Mama-bird mode has disengaged. I love that kiddy pool idea! Too cute! We have one in storage, I'll fill that up with sand for the hens (whose ground has frozen up as of late) and fill a smaller tub for the two peas. Much thanks!
Hate to post again so soon, 'specially for the following reason, but;
I purchased a pair of peachicks last sunday, a few days ago. On a hunch this morning I sat the younger pea-chick down and under a magnifying glass and light; pried through their feathers, only to find creepy crawlies every...
Thank you for the honesty/pointers. I had assumed they were stressed from the move. But I put them under a heating lamp this morning and they have become a lot more 'comfortable' and animated. I guess I over-estimated them, thinking they were hardy enough like the chickens.
I think Cameos sounds familiar. I didn't quite question the gentleman on what colouration they were. But looking at images of Cameos now, I would say you are correct.
Ah yes. Thank you. I won't touch the little one's beak. I put some shiney/colourful hanging toys with bells(which our budgie grew bored with) into the pen for them. hoping they notice and it gives the older pea a break!
Thanks much!
Gardenpeas; three weeks to four weeks. So still fairly young.
Dylansmom: Ah! yes that would be reasonable behavior, just, not sure if I should clip the smaller one's beak a smidgen? If that's possible?
So two days ago I bought a pair of young peafowl. All has gone well save for one issue; The smaller/younger bird likes to peck at the other's beak, sometimes at the fleshy ceres which has now resulted in little bloody marks and cuts around his ceres/nostrils.
What can I do to discourage or...
Thanks, you two! And yeah, today I have eradicated the usual, dwindling daily portion of Kaytee seed. It's just the harrison's and a tad bit of hi-cal grit, at the moment. I'm not going back to Petsmart for food. I may check in with my vet and see if she has any healthy, organic seed I could...
I took it to the vet yesterday. (Originally was going to take the healthy one, too, but the healthy one was getting far too stressed out so I left him home. )
I brought the kaytee feed and a cut out sample of the newspaper on the bottom of their cage, with the concerning, red droppings...
