It just breaks me when I remember my girls have already lived longer than any chickens in the meat industry.
I met an accidentally purchased cornish cross one time. She was the sweetest chicken. She was having mobility problems, and she was still just a baby.

You should all read "Under The Henfluence" by Tove Danovich. Soooo good. I love the way she uses a journalistic style for her book, and how it follows her journey with chickens. It sheds light on some of the harsher realities, while not being dark and dramatic, or unrealistic. It is a tough read, but the best book I have ever read.

First egg today! I think it was Esther cause I saw her comb was unusualy red yesterday, and she is the only one squating. SOOOO HAPPY!
