Oh, Ok...so If I maybe ditch these eggs and start saving the eggs at the end of the week that may work out better. There are a few that are super teeny tiny that I just cant believe a chick could/would develop in them. Sort of like with first time layer chickens...those first eggs are sorta...
OK, so the quail hens are laying, have been for the last 4 days, and Im collecting eggs on a daily basis. But......Im getting eggs in all sorts of different sizes??? I can understand the different colors and such, but why are they so different in size? Do I need to wait till they are all laying...
Ya know, I havent ever tasted quail eggs before:hu I guess it didnt enter my mind seeing as I have an average of 8 dozen chicken eggs in my frig at all times! LOL I just figure I will collect at least a dozen or so and hatch out some chicks
Well, our lil corturnix quail ladies are finally starting to lay eggs! Yesterday I got 3 eggs and today I got 4 eggs! We currently have 9 hens...so maybe we'll get 5 tomorrow! LOL Im amazed how fat and round quail eggs are...makes me think "ouch!" coming from such little birds! I guess I had...

Thanks for the info! I'll have to check out the forced air ones as well then. My lil hens arent laying yet, so no immediate need as of yet, but they should start any time now. They're 8 weeks old as of this weekend.....

Actually...if your a ebay fiend like myself....there are several brand new hovabators with turners for just under $100.00 buy it now on ebay. So I figured what the hey. Otherwise, our local feed store carries Little Giants, the incubator is $49.00 and the egg turner is $49.00. So either...
Hi all! I was wonder....what brand of incubator do you recommend? Im a newbie to incubating eggs, in the past my birds just sat their own eggs! LOL I have been looking at both the little Giant and the Hovabator, both still air models with egg turners as I do work and cant always be here to turn...
I agree with the statement about the medicated feed, but our feed store is not very customer friendly when it comes to any special orders. Sure they will maybe...possibly get it in for me. But how long will I wait? could be months, plus they wont bring it in unless I order a pallet full. Not...

LOL. I figured they would be like the chickens when it comes to the flopping part . My DH says when he shoots a dove dove hunting and its not dead he just grabs it by the neck digging his thumb into its throat and crushes its neck to kill it. I showed him the video that started this...
I noticed one posts says to chop off their heads, is that how everyone does it? I was figuring maybe folks broke their necks seeing as they are so much smaller then a chicken:/
BTW...my DH uses rose pruners to cut off the wings and feet on pheasants and doves...they work just as well
WOW! Im impressed by the meat on their lil legs! LOL Who would have thought! My DH is a avid hunter, so we eat alot of pheasant and he loves dove hunting. But then it comes to the dove we have always just breasted them out. Never really bothered with the lil birds legs. We do save the pheasant...

I do have soy meal (I buy it for the dairy goats) , I guess I can mix it with the remainder of the turkey grower I have so that it doesnt go to waist. After that I just buy the turkey starter as we dont have a mill that sells anything in bulk around here:(. I only think I can get that...

Thanks for the heads up on the feed. Does it matter if its medicated though?? The only feed store in town (we live outside of a small ,one feed store kind of town) carries medicated starters only Thats why I was using the grower instead....I wasnt sure about the medicated.
