Thank you so much for all the replies. Birdie is a beautiful addition to my little backyard flock. I had no idea Welsummers were such a pretty breed. So many colors and patterns in one bird. My only complaint is that she is flighty around me but I think that's my fault. I don't think we...
So excited! We got our first Welsummer egg today and I had to share it. She is 20 weeks to the day. It's a tiny little thing. Obviously it will get bigger over time, but I was curious about the color. Will it get darker? Will it always be speckled? I love the speckles! Just curious...
I'm having the same problem with one of my Silkies sleeping in the nesting box. I finally get my two teenage pullets to sleep on the roost not the floor of the coop, now I have to deal with the Silkie. She and her sister Silkie have never slept on the roosts so I can't just distract her by...
Got our nipples off eBay. Really you can attach it to any plastic vessel to create a waterer. Here is the one from our broody busting cage. It's a soda bottle. The one in our brooder is a small, plastic mayo jar. Our big girls' used to be a plastic pitcher til we upgraded them to a 2 gallon...
I am not familiar with that type of food, but check the protein level in it. I believe my Chick Starter/Grower that I am using is 18%. I think you want at last that since they still have alot of growing to do.
Love the nipple waterers!! Especially for the chicks. I used them for the first time on my chicks this year because we switched the big girls over to them recently and had a few extras. I can't recommend them enough. No more cleaning out the water 5 times a day!
Thanks! I got them from a small hobby breeder near me. I had no idea how their colors would turn out. They are so funny together. Here's another pic of her with her sister. Sister is more solid Buff with just a little of the blue color on her hiney.
My three had a big field trip yesterday to the backyard for the first time. They were a bit nervous at first. They barely ate any grass, mostly just looked around. As you can see, we've hit the ugly stage! 5 weeks old now.
I took some updated photos of my girl. She's almost a year old now. She's a Buff x Splash mix. Is her underneath color grey or blue? I'm new at this so I have no idea when it comes to colors :)
She does have some of the Splash spots developing on her neck. It's kind of an interesting look...
Mine had to be showed a few times to go up the ramp into the coop when they were first moved outside. They however, have never gotten the hang of roosting. They huddle together on the floor and sleep. But I haven't really tried to coax them onto roosts. I just have to hope they don't sleep...
I haven't been leaving the dish in their box because they will inevitably poop in it and get shaving in it and/or knock it over. Then I just have something else for me to clean :) I also sprinkle some grit on the towel we put them on when we take them out of their box for bonding time. I feel...
