The box is in a secret under turned Tupperware container. It fell over and she managed to squeeze under it and squish herself against the far end and lay eggs there. My only concern is that there are some blue eggs in there too, which means my Easter Eggers were laying in there and know where...
That makes me feel a little better about this whole situation (: But I think if at this point she left her nest, she wouldn't return. I'll put some cool water in her box and hopefully this will persuade her into staying. Any more tips?
I have one hen that has been secretly sitting on eggs. I recently found her sitting on 18, and I candled a few. They seem to have not overly pourous shells. They are around on week 1, day 2 as I accidently cracked one open. Now the thing is, she stays off of them for too long. Recently I have...
They are fine. The fact that they are rolling around is actually something you should look for. It means the chick isn't stuck to its shell. You have to stop worrying, and try to keep contact with the eggs to a minimum. I'm sure they will turn out just fine :)
So My broody hen has been sitting on 3 duck eggs for a while now, and yesterday was hatching day. They have not made any progress at all. I hear one pointlessly tapping, but it's not working. Two have pips, and the last has a crack from being pecked at, and I can see its down from the hole. On...
AH , calm down. How long was the incubator open for? The egg(s?) will be fine. Just sit back and have some icecream. The only reason you are advised to keep the incubator closed is newbies will open the incubator and mess with the eggs when they are hatching perfectly fine. The incubator has to...
I just came home from school. I go check on my duck eggs, and my broody is off her nest. Probably for her lunch break. I go to the duck eggs, and look at them. One looks cracked, so I picked it up and looked at it. Sure enough, it's cracked. It also has a hole at one end!! The pipping end! But...
Sadly, I have already buried the chicken in my graveyard. I just didn't have the heart to do an autopsy as it has been my first chicken that has died, and second, I have no idea what I'm looking for. That's fine though, I suspect it was sour/ impacted crop. I kept a feather as a token I will...
I came back from school and looked in the nesting box, and my buff orington cockerel was dead. It was very saddening because he's a family pet, a
Raised from an egg. I picked him up and set him on a chair, and doing so, he started leaking some kind of whiteish stink fluid. Now I want to know...
Yesterday, we put our 2 buff orpington pullet and cockerel out to free range at around 3:00. Their around 5-6 months old. It rained harshly at around 5 and I saw the two come in the garage to escape the rain, I was petting them. Later on, at around 6 I went to put them away, I found the cockerel...
Sorry, I'm at my grandmothers house and I can't get a picture right now. I'm now sure it's cataracts because it's eye has clouded almost completely over. Poor thang.
