We used to use vacuum bags in the past. Until we found and tried these babies http://www.cornerstone-farm.com/shrink-bag. We will never go back to vacuum bags.
That's called a full flavored bird. The ones you buy at the store are barely alive long enough to get any flavor in them. This is what a chicken is supposed to taste like and the very reason we raise our own. Ever compare the taste of pasture raised beef to the industrial grain fed junk! Same...
We ordered 50 birds from Freedom Ranger Hatchery also and could not have been more pleased. As mentioned Arthur was always day to answer any question you may have. I would highly recommend them if you are looking to raise some meat birds.
We raised 50 and butchered at 11.5 weeks. Average...
Our experience is just to let chicks eat whatever mama is eating. Layer feed/scrambled eggs/worms/raw milk/ really anything we would feed to older hens.
Never had a problem with any.
I can't see anything in his tiny ears - I looked the very best I could - clear ear holes.
So I'm guessing I need to try something... any suggestions??
Antibiotics? Vitamins?
This is our easter egger, Lady Gaga - She Was born that way :) She's 2 years old and one of my largest hens. Her cross beak/under bite doesn't slow her down at all. Our feeder is deep and she free ranges a lot.
Jiggy eats and drinks really well, (I sneak around to watch him) so I don't think he's hungry. He seems to be "bobbling" a little more and walking a little more dizzy, almost in circles. Other than his constant head bobble, he's doing really well, same as the other turkeys. I'll check his ears...
One of our Bourbon Red Turkey Poults looks like he's a bobble head turkey! Eating, Drinking, everything is fine... it just bobbles its head, worse when it had it's head down (pecking at the ground or feed) then stands up straight.
We named it "Jiggy" simply the cutest little turkey. He has...
We had a similar situation. HAd about 15 chicks in the brooder and several started flipping around and acting crazy 7 in all. We removed all from the brooder thinking maybe something was wrong with the bedding even though it was new. 4 died and three lived. I think our brooder lamp was too low...
well i don't think it is food, bedding or water related. we just had one die in the hatcher. it was fully fluffed and we was going to take it out but then all this happened.
incubator/hatcher and brooder are in a spare bedroom. we did have some closet cedar blocks lying on the bed. we usually...
We have lost a total of 7 chicks in the last 1/2hr. 4 are dead and 3 are dying they were dry and appeared healthy when removed from hatcher.
Brooder was around 90 degrees. We had new pine shavings down in a new 2x6 metal trough we just got from tractor supply. Just like the ones they keep...
