    Success in Carrollton, GA!

Thanks, speckledhen! Daisy is doing great! It was a long summer trying to get my three girls to accept her, though. It went way beyond establishing pecking order too; they were downright brutal to her so I had to put her in her own coop. Then, I got two chicks to put with her so that she would...

    Success in Carrollton, GA!

larsonll, You're welcome. It was my pleasure, really. I'm just glad that we have a mayor and council that were open to listening to the idea; it seems that other communities are not so fortunate in that respect. I hope you enjoy your little flock. I know I love having mine around.

    Success in Carrollton, GA!

We have been working on changing the local ordinances in the city of Carrollton, GA since April. In March I received a notice on my door which stated that the three hens that I had in my backyard did not comply with city ordinances and that they must be removed from my property within...

    wazine wormer

My understanding is that the only parasite that Wazine will be effective on is roundworms. Ivermectin, though, will help with both internal and external parasites. I know that ivermectin is effective for treating lice, and I think it is also useful for treating mites.

Any ideas on the breed of these two little birds?

Yes, they do look like they might be a pair. I hope they're not, though, because I can't keep a rooster.

Any ideas on the breed of these two little birds?

A friend gave these two to me. She did not know what breed they were because someone bought them for her at a swap and did not get information about their breed. She wanted to keep them because they have very friendly personalities, but decided against it because they appear to be bantams. They...

Are vine borers okay for chickens to eat?

I didn't let them in the garden. They always hang out by the garden fence waiting for me to throw them any bugs I find while I'm working in it. I usually do not let them in the garden until the end of the season, and then they can go in and scratch up and eat anything they want. Until then, they...

    Is this DE safe?

I hope it's safe! This is the same brand that I have been using for over a year now. It does say food grade on the bag (it does on mine, anyway) so it should be safe.

Are vine borers okay for chickens to eat?

You're right! I just googled squash stink bugs and it's exactly the ugly bugs that I found around the bottom of my plants. I do have a double infestation... wonderful. I also read that I can plant garlic, marigolds or catnip to repel them. Anyway, my chickens ate vine borers and stink bugs, so I...

Chicken-hater trying to kill my buzz! (Auburn, AL)

Quote: Absolutely! I have had chickens for over a year now and have not had a single problem with smell. It's not just me either, everyone who has been to my house and seen my chickens is always impressed with how clean and not-smelly their coop is. I am always happy when I can dispel this...

Are vine borers okay for chickens to eat?

This morning I finally figured out what has been causing the demise of my zucchini plants- vine borers! I noticed that the plants looked like they were rotting at the base with yellowish looking saw dust near it. A quick internet search revealed that vine borers may be the culprit. So, I cut the...
