Never mind. I put her down. Now to track down the symptoms and try to keep the rest of the flock from catching what ever that was. My biggest problem around here is wild birds.
The other birds aren't showing any signs of sickness but knowing I had one that was down, he suggested just running through one bag of the medicated as a preventative measure.
Wazine is what I'm using for the worms, although I don't really think that's the problem. The only other things I have...
Sorry. I've been pushing and rushing to get things done before snow flies. What you said about the worming....um...after 3 days of it I guess I better stop. oops...
I've been afraid to mix too many things in the water at the same time and was also adding the vitamins. I decided to start on...
The wormer is called Wazine and we figured out the dosage at about 1/8 oz per gallon. She's still in the cage but I've seen her eating and several times a day, she moves around but it's still the same leg out. I noticed earlier that she was holding it out front instead of out to the side.
I agree. I'm dosing the whole family. :) They wanted scratch but I kept telling them I want them to just eat what's in their house for a couple days. They weren't happy but I'm the boss.
AND....my little girl ate a little today. I don't know for sure how much she drank but I got a dropper full...
They've all been dosed with wormer, electrolytes, vitamins, calcium and another suggestion I got from the guy at the feed store. He says not only himself but others around here run through a bag of medicated chick feed a couple times a year...so...more feed.:) Sick baby got the vitamins and...
Just an FYI the first dozen hens came from a hatchery and were inoculated. Since then, there have been about 5 newly hatched hens AND the rooster I'm using that were not inoculated.
Looks like I need to run down to the farm supply. I've got a package of vitamins and electrolytes but it looks like it got wet somehow and I'm afraid of mold.
Been going through the signs and symptoms. They have a small door they use for the henhouse about 2' off the ground with a ramp. I was...
She seemed to be pulsing the first day but just now I got all ready for a bath but checked her over first. I felt all around....no egg and she seems to be favoring that right leg. She lays half on her side with the right leg extended.
After I laid her back down, I sat and watched and what...
I let the chickens have the run of the back yard. I found this one hen day before yesterday, on the ground and leaning to one side. The first thing I noticed was a completely bloody comb. Evidently the others got after her while she was down. I brought her in and put her in a cage with food and...
Out of 10 hens, I kept seeing one that seemed to want to go broody but then she'd run off and let the eggs get cold, so I'd bring them in. So when these 2 were doing the same thing, I let it go for the day, thinking they would again run off to play instead of setting but then it went into day 2...
Well, I got them moved and waited almost 2 hours. It was after dark so I expected them to give up and settle but ....oh no...not my girls. I caved, let them follow me to the hen house where they gratefully ran inside. I fetched their eggs and put them back and they went straight back to them. I...
I haven't prepared for babies but allowed 2 hens to brood. I had no idea there was about 2 dozen eggs between them until today. When I caught another hen running around with a baby chick in its mouth I panicked.
I managed to fix them up a spot that's actually a pen built for a goat but never...
