I let the chickens have the run of the back yard. I found this one hen day before yesterday, on the ground and leaning to one side. The first thing I noticed was a completely bloody comb. Evidently the others got after her while she was down. I brought her in and put her in a cage with food and water. She drank a little bit, the first day but I think that's all.
Her tendency is to lay on one side or the other but the head is still up and she's alert, her eyes are bright but she keeps acting like she's trying to push out an egg.
She's one of the ones I've suspected all along that is not laying so now I'm confused.
Her crop is empty and her feathers all look good but she's not standing. I first inspected her feet and legs and don't see anything wrong.
I didn't have time to tend to her but I'm about ready to fix her a warm bath and dose her with olive oil and probably oil her vent and feel around for an egg.
What's got me going is this lying on one side all the time. It doesn't seem to match up with an egg bound symptom. Any ideas?

This was day 1. Her comb is healing.
