Youre right, they are legal in the city, not the suburbs...I'll be talking to my alderman tomorrow to see what can be done. I've got a friend my girls can go to for now...keep your fingers crossed!!
I'm calling the alderpersons in the am as I finally got their contact info.....it is legal to keep chickens in the CITY of Milwaukee, not in the suburb of South Milwaukee. I work for animal control and we have no info on record about ordinances and I'm having a hard time finding it online....but...
Moonkit~I wish this were true but I live in a suburb of milwaukee, South Milwaukee :/ after reviewing what I could find of my ordinances, chickens are not legal but pigeons are so....can't the law be bent just a little?? No, I know, but I've gotta fight it somehow!
So here's the story. Neighbors called about the unfortunate roo I ended up with after buying him as a pullet. I am new to chickens and didn't know I had been dooped (he was a silkie:) until I heard the crows. Yesterday I FINALLY sold him, after 3 months of postings etc....
Anyhow, I came home...
Hi again. It is a pretty crappy day all around. Eggtopsied the 2 babies, both in correct position, never pipped, still had yolk sacs attached. I will upload the graphic pics later. Having a problem getting the bator below 20% as my remaining eggs need to lose some weight!
BUT! The worst part...
Hmmmm....I have not taken the fan guard off and disinfected under there but I do scrub and bleach in between sets...I will deifinitely do that after this hatch, good thought. To think the queen of bleach may actually have missed a spot! regarding humidity, this last set was in the 30's and...
My 2 eggs died AGAIN! I am ready to quit....once again, dead in shell before pipping. My girls are laying well but I'm not sure I even want to pursue incubating anymore. Wish I had a broody hen :/
As far as turning goes, I turn once in the a.m., once after work and once before bed. I don't...
Here we go...I'm pretty sure I've been 'got'....2 cockerals correct? Coloring is dark splash with red???
.
no crowing but strutting and fightin with each other like cats and dogs! I'm prepared to be VERY disappointed....no roo's allowed in the city!
Hey guys! I have to handle them as I have no turner but I try to make it fairly quick. This time I weighed them before incubating and then again yesterday when I candled for the first time but other than that....only for turning. I candle again on day 18 but that's it....I wish I had a turner....
After re reading the replies again, my last clutch was incubated at 40% but I allowed the bator to dry down to around 20% before adding more water, which ended up being every few days. I'm hoping that with my kitchen scale and some simple calculations that I will be able to pretty much ensure...
Hi all! Thanks for the replies! The last hatch that I attempted I considered a 'dry incubation' as the humidity was around 40% for 18 then 60% after that. This time I have weighed them so as to even more closely monitor them. With humidity at 40% they have lost 1 gram in 5 days so I bumped it to...
Hello everyone! I'm pretty new to chickens and am embarassed to admit that I am currently ATTEMPTING to hatch my 5th clutch of eggs (1 survivor to date) Here's my current stats:
Using a Brinsea Octagon Eco 20, hand turning
humidity at 40-50% with a recently calibrated Accurite hygro/therm
temp...
Hi all, I'm VERY new to chickens and picked this hen up from a free range farm. I also bought a silkie cuckoo pullet that ended up a roo and now I have fertilized eggs! I'm interested in learning about genetics (rather than see what hatches:) but I guess I would need to know her color first...
