    Sacramento rehome RIR

Unfortunately, we have lost the rest of our crew and I am down to my last girl, Pepper. I am not planning on getting more chickens at this time and from what I'm reading she should be part of a flock. Though I feel immense guilt over it, I do believe rehoming is our best option. She is a...

    Feeling deflated

I lost a hen today and I have another who is possibly ill. This is my first flock I've had for a little over 4 years and I feel chicken keeping just isn't for me and I'm feeling very deflated today. I left town Saturday afternoon, came back Monday morning and I don't see one of the hens. I look...

    Limp due to cancer?

Thank you for the reply. My assumption is that it's cancer and I'm wondering how long it takes to progress. Vet said 1-3 months from her experience. Ofc we will do the full round of meds and hope for improvement. But if things don't improve, I wonder when it's time for euthanasia. I'm trying to...

    Limp due to cancer?

My almost 4 yo RIR started limping around 1/9. She keeps her foot hovered just above the ground. I feared it was bumble foot but didn't see the marking. I gave her some time hoping the issue would resolve on its own (appetite and behavior were otherwise normal). After about 2.5 weeks I decided...

HELP! Nobody responded to my last post

Thank you guys for you help. Unfortunately, we lost her sometime very late last night/very early this morning. I had felt inside of her twice and never felt an egg. Then there was this 109 degree heat we have, but she got through the worst of it yesterday and made it into the late night. She...

HELP! Nobody responded to my last post

We did buy electrolytes so we will get started on that right away. Regarding the calcium glutamate. My husband was told by an employee not to tube feed it to her but to subcutaneously administer it, so he purchased some 20-22 gauge needles. Does this sound right? I just watched a video on how to...

HELP! Nobody responded to my last post

And should I be concerned with aspirating while tube feeding? I think I remember reading that can be a huge problem with chickens. Sorry, this is my first flock, 2 years old. I'm definitely still learning especially when health issues arise.

HELP! Nobody responded to my last post

Thank you so much for your response. My local store did not have it, in fact the employee did not know what it was, so my husband is on his way to another store. Oh man! Tube feeding sounds like it's going to be quite an undertaking. I'll do some research on it now while he is en route. Do...

HELP! Nobody responded to my last post

please help! My last post I was unsure why my hen isn’t well. I’m thinking vent gleet or egg bound. But I haven’t received any feedback. I tried yogurt/ACV/wheat germ. And I’ve done one epsom soak. But it is getting hotter and hotter (97+ F) and she is panting so I decided to bring her in the...

Pls help! Does my hen have vent gleet? egg bound?

Update: She had some yogurt/wheat germ/ACV. She has gone to her feeder a few times, drank quite a bit of water, and free ranged a little bit. She has had some poos, just one good one. Symptoms: Still walking with a wide gait, pulsing her vent. Pale comb and wattle. When I let her out to free...

Pls help! Does my hen have vent gleet? egg bound?

Tomorrow I will check her crop first thing. Thoroughly clean coop, run and water. I'll also purchase yogurt and add some ACV to their water. If anyone has any additional insight and tips beyond that, I would greatly appreciate it. I get so worried when they're not acting normally.

Pls help! Does my hen have vent gleet? egg bound?

2 y/o RIR. I saw her squatting in the run today. She looks like she has a saggy diaper on and she has quite a bit of poo on her back side. I let them out to free range for a couple hours. She has had a slight bend in her knees like she wants to poop and keeps flexing her vent like she’s going...

    HELP! Possible sour crop...?

Hopefully my last update: I gave her chunks of coconut oil that she gobbled right up. I had a time catching her today (I take that as a good sign) I had intended on giving her a massage but when I felt her crop it was much smaller and softer. Like a water balloon. She wanted nothing to do with...

    HELP! Possible sour crop...?

lol right? You know you're a parent of someone or something when you're invested in poos. I'm so sorry for the loss of your girl ❤ MORNING UPDATE: Because I wasn't aware of sour crop, I wasn't sure what I was looking for in terms of an empty crop this morning. Her crop wasn't as hard as last...
