Mixed flock, they keep mixing the oyster shell into the pellets

Thanks for the info! May I ask (hope I'm not annoying y'all experienced chicken owners too much with my questions😅) I have tried asking farmers and farm supply employees but they're not used to people with pet roos n Bantams! Here it's very very uncommon to find pure grit in farm supply stores...

Mixed flock, they keep mixing the oyster shell into the pellets

I assumed it would be like feeding layer pellets to a non laying bird, too much calcium and bad for the kidneys (if they were fully mixed into the pellets by me). But I'm sure he could do with a lil calcium for his bones n pin feathers!

Bird flu ordinances in place- wild birds got into feed but shops are closed, advice please?

Sorry to hear that- I suppose people can keep them safe by locking down themselves. What we were advised: Careful with the shoes you wear into the coop run, maybe keep a pair that won't track in any contaminated bird droppings. Careful letting people who have chickens themselves come into the...

Mixed flock, they keep mixing the oyster shell into the pellets

Hi! I've read for obvious reasons don't mix the oyster grit with the pellets. I put the grit on the other side of the coop of the food in a little terracotta dish so that it's not easily kicked over like plastic (I have Bantams). The feed is served in a thick solid glass container. They INSIST...

Thank you! Will attempt! And store it safer another time. Bird flu or no they could get a lot of nasty things from wild birds.

Unfortunately I would give away my location too specifically if I told you which country- but I'm in Europe:) not trying to be mysterious! I specified how far away some of the wild to poultry cases were so that'd pin point me on a map.

Bird flu ordinances in place- wild birds got into feed but shops are closed, advice please?

Hi! So the lockdown (24/7 coop, no longer open food or water sources) are mostly protective, the wild to poultry cases where an hour away and a few weeks ago. BUT ive run out of the food in the coop feeder and have no way of getting any New feed until sometime next week and today shops are...

Anyone else a chicken hypochondriac? Thought one had Marek's... she was dustbathing

Tell me about it! Then they are all stressed by the chase and groping around. So it's a guessing game on whether they're distressed from that or the mystery illness🙄 I was CONVINCED one of them had an impacted crop last week😂 to be fair I've only had silkie roosters until now and so hens with...

Glad I'm not the only one signing them up for an MRI at the slightest misstep😅

Anyone else a chicken hypochondriac? Thought one had Marek's... she was dustbathing

Title says it all.. I am new and only see them in any length of time indoors and my vinyl flooring obviously doesn't allow for much dustbathing. Spent half an hour panicking, took my rooster ( my pet) indoors for belated quarantine and googled terrified. Went back outside and she was walking...

Temperature changes- is it safe to bring them indoors during winter?

It’s for fun and cuddles- I have pet chickens as in i just have hens to keep him happy. He’s like a tiny feathery dog and is only kept for his good looks and sociable personality. He hates the coop 😂 because he loves exploring the apartment. Edit: said that to tell you it’s not concern for the...

Temperature changes- is it safe to bring them indoors during winter?

Hi! I have pet chickens, the rooster specifically. He’s a silkie. I got chickens in the summer but now that it is a little below freezing and their coop isn’t insulated (but solid wood) its quite cold out there. I don’t have coop heating yet but it’s normal not to here. Until now I’ve enjoyed...

New polish crested acting strange and balding

For future reference- she had chicken lice. The whole batch did. Probably the lice causing it!

New polish crested acting strange and balding

Sorry for forgetting to reply- the poop had dried by the time I got pics but think its just lining and watery from stress. The weird behaviour is gone only thing now is occasional head flicking and a droopy tail but also occasional. I think the head movement was from trying to figure out the...
