That is correct most cats wont touch rats, though there is some that will, but majority wont. I do say i have a kitten i got about 5 years ago it was part of a litter of "Barn Cat" and im sure it wouldnt think twice about killing one.

Put 12x12 cement pavers along the entire coup around the outside paremeter, this will stop any animals (predators) from digging underneath, its fool proof, ive done this and never had a problem in several years.
