Hello all! I am hoping to gather suggestions for naming our very unique farm. We live in Alaska and have a quickly expanding farm. We started with chickens, added bees, and now goats! We live high in the mountains and are very self-sufficient. We need to name our farm! Please post your ideas...
I have a little giant as well. My first hatch was only 30% successful. I have since been about to get 60-80% success. It's important to calibrate your equipment. Even if it's new, it's unlikely it's spot on. Read http://exoticpets.about.com/od/herpresources/ss/hygrometer_2.htm#step-heading to...
It could take up to 25 days. 21 days is just the "standard". Did the eggs sit for a while before you put them in the incubator? Temperature or humidity could have been off. It's important to calibrate your equipment. It's rare any equipment you use is going to give spot on readings.
I'm working on sexing my barred rock chicks to sell some...
I believe these are pullets based off of wing sexing.
Here are what I believe are cockerels based off of wing sexing and a few that I was able to successfully vent sex.
What do you guys think?
I am assuming vent sexing is one of the most accurate ways to sex chicks. I am planning on selling the batch I have now and need to be sure I don't give away any roosters. Is there any helpful pictures or videos you have come across to help me out? Thanks!
I'm doing my best to familiarize myself with sexing these barred rocks. Does this look like a male? They just hatched today. Should I wait till tomorrow for a little more wing development? I'm not doing too well with vent sexing. I can't find good pictures or videos.
I figured it was a possibility of them not making it. I just had three prior die inside the shell after pipping, so I figured it would be worth a shot. My humidity during the last 3 days was 65-70% (and has continued to be since I have more eggs). The first 18 days I kept it around 45%. Could...
So after the "first generation" what are the chicks called if they arnt BSL? Just a barnyard mix? I am in Alaska and it seems as though people are identifying by what their colors look like. May not be a pure BR but if it kind of looks like one they are advertising as that. Is this the correct...
I successfully hatched 8 out of 18 eggs. All of which were candled and actively moving on the 18th day. The 8 that are doing well are now out in the brooder. This marks day 23. Three eggs pipped and were unable to unzip (they look like they suffocated.. maybe). Yesterday two eggs had been pipped...
Here is the old guy. He had some gold on him. I don't really know what he was...BR and? I wasn't planning on breeding him since I got a new rooster...
He's all BR, right? if i breed him next I'll have straight BR's and (do you still have BSL if the rooster is a BR and female is a BSL?)
These are mixed breed chicks. I don't plan on keeping all of them and I want to be able to tell whom ever im selling them to what I think they are.
This would be easier if I had one rooster and one hen, however before incubating my rooster died and I got a new rooster. My new rooster is a...
